You can always convert it to one of the main cryptos, that is what I do. If they will give me $3 in crypto I ain't complaining! 😄
1st, you should prefix your statements with: "i'm not a financial advisor."

2nd, i'm not a financial advisor, but the moment you earned that $3, you already owe taxes on it this year, because you didn't buy that $3 with your own money.

3rd, when you sell it, you owe the difference between the original $3 that you already paid taxes on and the price that you sold it as. dont double tax yourself

if you bought that crypto with your dollars then yes that is true, when you sell (or convert) you pay on the profit.

if someone gave you something, you pay at receipt, just like a normal stock. you dont pay for taxes when buying a stock, but if someone gifts you $100,000 in stock, you ofcourse have to taxes when you got the stock. then if your stock goes up (or down) when you sell, you then calculate the difference from the initial $100k. otherwise parents can just give their kids stock/crypto and not pay any tax.

in this case, papa coinbase gifted you $3 in crypto
Always like to add a few $ to my ETH balances… Thanks!

This is false. You can receive stock gift and not pay tax if you are under the lifetime estate exemption. This statement immediately disqualifies any tax advice this user has provided. Don't believe any tax advice given on this site (or any site). Contact your cpa.

Did I get that question correct?
Want us to get off your lawn too? You should go try to learn something about it, you are obviously a clueless troll

The way crypto moves it's probably worth half that now.
All of the coins I've gotten from these have gone up in value, some near 10x

This is incorrect. You owe income taxes (in the US) the moment you receive crypto, as that is considered income (i.e. being paid in crypto, not purchasing crypto), for what it is worth at that moment in time. You also pay capital gains (if applicable) if you sell within a year, whether you bought the crypto or have been paid in crypto.

Still mad about how I made an account and jumped through hoops to get $10 of bitcoin in 2014 and they never gave it to me.

Careful. There's a 0.5% average spread charge that isn't shown for conversions.
I knew something was there. I always convert some random ones when some go up and go down just to slide them around so they don't lose a lot of money and when I do to a currency that is stagnant I somehow see a fraction missing and I asked CB about it and they said it was sold at market which fluctuated fast. I said I doubt it because it's a stagnant 1.00 to 1.01 moving coin.

Also never put your money into USD Coin if your "crypto" starts to fall. They charged me $2.00 to put it in and $2.00 to take it out.

Do what I do...
I take the quiz.. convert the coin to Cosmos then I slide if over to (Paxos or Algorand) when I see a dip then put it back into Cosmos when it starts going back up. Sometimes I miss a wave or two but my CB ( NO MONEY OF MY OWN PUT IN) has grown from 0 to $16 then $16 to $32 and now from all the switching back and forth I am sitting at $89 as of this morning and just started CB about 1 month ago.

Just opened my Wife an account to do the same thing.

you mean the complete scumlord website built entirely to turn currencies into gambling tokens wasn't completely fair with you?
I am shocked!

In all honesty everyone involved in Coinbase can kick rocks IMO. This is 2000s era dot com crach junk all over again.

"watch our brainwashing videos and get a paltry amount of trashcoins in exchange for becoming a walking crypto zombie that sells friends on becoming addicted to giving us fees to gamble pieces of paper against others for no reason other than to speculate!"

I thought one has to pay regardless if one sells or not? I know that the bonus that bank accounts/cc gives is considered as capital gains, right?

Or is the bonus being given as crypto isn't considered as capital gains?
Go to El Salvador... they don't levy capital gains tax on BTC

I can't tell if your ignorant and foolish to the ways of crypto or specifically coinbase. Sure CB fees aren't great but they make it easy, but no different than any number of other exchange sites/apps or stock apps. For people that think Crypto is a sham, you are fooling yourself; especially if you think the USD actually holds some intrinsic value over crypto

Switch over to Coinbase pro after receiving to covert. You can do limit orders then. Trades are a fraction of the price of regular CB.

Most of these are erc20 tokens. They're based on ethereum making them easy to create and various projects. Most are garbage and it's expensive to transfer for eth fees to wallets.

Stick with eth and coins that are their own Blockchain
