  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

Probably not. Unless you have a T-Mobile iPhone SE 2020 in white lying around

Picked up two 13s at the St. John's bb in Jacksonville, FL, today at about noon. It's in a BIG shopping center, but there weren't many customers there and I was seen within a few minutes. (I had received the "taking longer" emails for both orders last night, but then received two "order ready" emails at opening time this morning.) The trade ins (12 pro and 7) went fine, but the guy was concerned that the 12 pro trade in was more than $675 since his screen didn't show the $125 bump, but the more experienced guy said just put the order through and blah blah. Swung by the nearby Apple store planning to return the 13 I bought direct, but there was a crowd outside and I heard there was a 2 hour wait, so I'll do it by mail. Went to return the wife's 12 pro at Costco and the only guy there was twiddling his thumbs. I had braced myself for a much longer day.

When you went to pickup, did they verified the value of iPhone SE? my son has a white 64GB 2020 SE from Tmobile. Based on your experience, I don't think it is worth trying. I am seeing the 858.32 as the tradein value.

The rep typed the IMEI (I think) in the system, then paused, took the phone, asked to see my order, then went they can't give me $858 for the phone and that it's wrong. Mentioned the system not letting it happen and making it cancel, but not sure if it's just the rep guard keeping.

I have to say, as good of a deal as this is, I probably won't bite next time. The bestbuy rep insisted only an authorized user can do the trade in and refused to allow the pickup. I had id, primary account holder's ssn, account passcode, the phone still active, and the card used to cover the 100ish difference. Not enough, he insisted everyone in line must hold the tmobile account in your name or be authorized user on the account even if your device is fully paid off.

I went back after grabbing dinner and the other rep just processed it no problem. Really depends on who you get at bestbuy but it's enough to make me avoid them again.
I don't understand why Best Buy requires in-person trade-in while all others do not.
Not to mention the ridiculous requirement of giving out your fingerprint.

Just picked up my iPhone 13 pro. Didn't ask for primary account holder ssn so that's good. They activated it for me which I didn't mind. It had a SIM card on top and they just put my old one in the new phone.

When I checked the receipt for trade in it only shows 220 and the extra 100 wasn't shown but I don't think it's a problem since it's been paid for. Just heard someone trying to get the iPhone 13 and they were all sold out. Idk why people didn't pre order it

Went in twice today for two separate pickups. Same process both times.

They asked about trade-in, asked what i am picking up and name.
Scanned the phone and some other things on the phone.
Looked at my phone. Makes it go a lot faster if you factory reset before going there. They press some buttons to get the IEMI and other stuff, input into computer.
Make me verify Name, Number, Address (on order), and email.
Then they scan the new sim card to activate it (attached to the outside box using the Best Buy pickup sticker). I'm still using the old sim 6 hours later so time will tell when old sim becomes inactive.
Then hand me the phone, and they take the old trade-in phone.
Done in about 5 mins with this process both times.
