Your linked switch's name literally says "unmanaged" while OP's switch is "managed". You are comparing apple and orange. $25 for a managed switch is not bad at all
Depends on the context...
If you filter by 8 port with special features they aren't bad. I have this switch and would get another for this price. I'm using the vlan functionality as well.

100mbps VLANs???! Has anybody else also measured it and confirmed? 100mbps VLANs sound very bad if it's true
It's not true.

Unless you need to pass different networks or plan to do switched VLANS, there is no need for a managed switch. An unmanaged switch would do just fine for those who are need to expand their network ports like a power strip.

I prefer tp-link switches to netgear, unless we're talking about unmanaged then it doesn't really matter to me.

I had this switch, however cannot find the IP via their software and can only use this in the unmanaged mode.

Gs308e does not support LAG. Other common tasks are identical such as vlan (tagging) and some limited options.

Lot's of talk about VLANs on this thread, which can be tricky for a first-timer. Just keep these 2 rules in mind.
  1. Only one untagged VLAN per port
  2. The untagged VLAN for a port should also be its PVID

Do you know if this also does not have failover?
