This is a great deal for a raw performance focused powerhouse as it has very little battery life due to Intel and a small 60wh battery, so don't buy it if you plan on running it on battery power. This laptop strangly has very poor ports, having no USB C port. The display is a standard 144hz panel

If these aren't issues for you this laptop has unparalleled horsepower at this pricepoint right now and is built well
there is usb-c, but it is not thunderbolt
My advice: don't buy MSI. They'll stop supporting their old hardware about 6 months after releasing the replacement model. DAMHIK.

Thanks for the update it is very much appreciated. How hot did the L5P get while you were using it?

So quick update:

I decided to keep the L5P. I was leaning towards keeping the GP66 but after having the L5P in person definitely feels like a higher quality laptop than the GP66. And WOW the screen and build quality is so nice, but it's significantly heavier than the GP66.

The L5P has some problems but nothing that a little bit of money can't fix. While the GP66 has problem that can't really be fixed with money (i.e, battery life, lack of usb c, ok screen)

L5P Problems:
Shitty WiFi, can be replaced.
Low storage space, can be replaced
Slow RAM timings, can be replaced.
Large charging brick: can be replaced with smaller brick and even use a 100W charger for lighter tasks

Overall, I'm very happy with the L5P and it's enough for me to return the GP66.
Hi byhoung,

Thanks for sharing your detailed comparisons between using both the Legion 5 Pro and the MSI GP66. I'm curious and this info would be helpful for others as well looking between the two laptops - do you mind sharing how much in total you had to spend on top of your Legion 5 Pro to update the Wifi, low storage space, slow Ram timings, etc? So total out of pocket to buy the Legion 5 Pro and updating the problems you had with it to make it where you wanted the laptop to be for your needs?

Would be nice to know the total actual cost to get the Legion 5 Pro to where you want it to be, vs the MSI GP66.

Thank you for sharing!

I haven't even noticed the heat which I guess is a good thing. But yeah I would check reviews cause I haven't measured it myself.

Honestly I've been able to get by.

The RAM is only an issue in games if you're playing at 1080p. At higher resolutions it doesn't really make a difference.

The WiFi card I got the mediatek one and after updating my drivers my problems seemed to go away so no rush to get that replaced but it's only $18 to get the latest WiFi card.

The space I just bought a 1tb Kingston SSD for $80 so add that to the cost and I'm all set.
