I'd rather pay $20 more and not spend a week driving to and from Microcenter.
I'm so glad I'm a walk away from a Micro Center. I hope it doesn't die out like Fry's.

Word to the wise - these run hot! I have a very well ventilated case and a 280MM AIO and my struggles to stay under 75 degrees during long gaming sessions. I am sure my RTX 3080 doesn't help, but I have my 5800X undervolted and it gets warm.
With pbo and Co mine hits 90C using a 360 aio, in a 9 fan o11 case. it's a pos.

Fry's died because a certain procurement officer embezzled $38m for a few measly trips to vegas with cocaine and hookers.

Mine hits 90C too. O11, 9 fans, and the Galahad which is supposed to be a pretty good AIO cooler.

Sucks because I've been converting files with handbrake for PLEX, so it's been running 90C almost constantly (until now—recently finished my current batch of films. Over 400 and 13 TV shows all converted!)

After some thought I'm pretty sure I'm going to use the 5700G even though I have a GTX 1060 3GB for this build. It will be my workstation for a while and odds are it will eventually become my server where the power savings and iGPU will be useful.

From what I've read (*not an expert here, just researching if this is a good deal), this ARE supposed to run hot by design. Reviews say to get the next one b/c of the price, but with the discount this might not be a bad deal. the next lower one 5600x is around 270 tho, so it might be a better buy.

What are your settings? How can I undervolt if if mine ends up running hot?

5600X seems like a better fit for your use case. It's $100 cheaper than the 5700X, comes with a cooler, supports ECC RAM, and you won't notice the difference between a 6-core and a 8-core 99% of the time.

You get the poorly binned 8 core chips with the same thermal design (140w) as the 5950X (the "good" ones are used for the 5950X) and give them less silicon to distribute the heat throughout the heat spreader.

How this is front page deal if microcenter 5800x everyday price is 349? If you buying compatible mb you will get extra $20 off at microcenter.

Same! Running this with a 280 AIO and a 3080FE in an NR200. It hits mid 80's in Cinebench with a -10 undervolt, such a hot chip.
