I had a nice tree that I loved, I actually ripped the lights off when they started going wacky and replaced them with twinkly ones. It is a pita stringing them, especially since I'm short. laugh out loud But I don't think I'd buy another prelit for that reason. Taking the others off was miserable, but can be done.
The old ones came off in like 10 batches, was able to use some of the smaller ones for my front window. So pretty happy it worked out.

I want to make sure that people know that not every Twinkly pre lit tree is the same. This is the cheapest one pretty much. There are other ones with 600 lights and now branches.

I purchased the Walmart one with 400 lights two Xmas ago…. It's awesome…. The wife had to spend time with all the branches and when she was done it was 1000 times fuller than any store display and nearly every review with pictures. We ordered this one for the heck of it and it has a lot more lights…so we will see! It's def worth the $300 at Walmart. Even neighbors got it last years at full price…. It will be slim pickings this season and will never make it to clearance.

When the twinkly trees work they are amazing. However, I bought one last year for near full price from HD- top section was DOA and tech support and parts replacement from twinkly was non-existent. I after three weeks of searching I managed to find a replacement from HD and drove further than I'd liked to have only to return home and watch the top on that one light up and die within an hour.

My neighbors twinkly tree lasted the holiday season- but I will be interested to see if it works when they put it up this year.

The lights and technology is impressive- the build quality of the tree and it's internal connectors is very mediocre at best.

The reviews on HD are pretty awful - lots of people having the problem you had. But I wonder if it's just the HD model, because reviews on other sites for Twinkly trees aren't as bad.
