Plug in model $14.60. Uses AA batteries instead of 9v for backup.

Amazon [amazon.com]

Plug in model with ppm logging $22.48. Uses 9v battery (use lithium because alkalines aren't high enough voltage)

Amazon [amazon.com]

CO detectors can be placed anywhere because it mixes with all of the air rather than rising like smoke does.

These are great for when you go camping. Leave inside the tent if you use a buddy heater or something similar.
Plug in model is $14.60. Down from alleged normal price of $29.99.

From the EPA: "Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air, detectors should be placed on a wall about 5 feet above the floor."
Seems like the plug in model isn't ideal since outlets are generally 18 inches of the floor.

Been waiting for a deal on plug in ones, so good finds. Battery ones are a PITA because alkaline 9v batteries aren't high enough voltage, so they will chirp after just a month or so of use. You've got to buy the expensive lithium 9v batteries to avoid the chirp.

This one which gives the ppm readout is also on sale apparently.

OP, you might want to link the other 2 plug-in models in your post to increase interest.
I believe this one uses 3 AA not 9V

I will never ever buy Kidde products again.

Wasted so much money on their smoke alarms only for them to go defective within 1 month of purchase. Years later I find out they have a recall on them, as with a TON of their other products.

Be smart, don't buy Kidde products.
In other words, don't Kidde yourself.

Apparently this new one uses 2 AA instead of 3 AAA.

Have had zero problems with Kidde models. Yes they had a big recall, which isn't good. However I replaced my older Kidde (no recall) with all new kidde about 4 months ago, and no issues.

Conflicting recommendations, but it seems like placement is not so important.

"Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air, some recommend that you place it on the ceiling or at least 5 feet from the floor. However, some studies show carbon monoxide doesn't settle at the floor, float in the middle, or rise to the top; rather, it disperses at an equal concentration throughout the room."

Kinda like how CO2 is heavier than regular air, but it pretty much disperses evenly.

I just picked 5 of these up from walmart, and it let me apply WOWFRESH promo code for another $10 off the total.
I think its $10 off $50. Didn't work to ship it, but worked if I selected local pickup.

5 units came out to be $53.75 after tax...slick!

I prefer full time battery ones to the plugin+backup variety. Even though plugin kind only draws a small current from the wall, it adds up to much move than cost of AA batteries over the years because the power supplies on them are so inefficient. And after a few power outages, the backup ones eat your backup AA batteries and you still have to replace them, because they aren't efficient during the power outage either.

I'd stick them 4-5 feet up your wall, more so if it's your bedroom. I was always told it sinks more and halfway up is the best.

If that's wrong what's the harm?

Not sure what model exactly, but I have the regular hard wired Kidde combined CO/smoke detectors (with battery backup) that you mount to your ceiling like the other regular smoke detectors.

Minimum, (1) CO detector per floor, if you can afford more then add (1) detector per bedroom

Mr Buddy Heaters cannot produce carbon monoxide. They are catalyst heaters and not parabolic.

You should install them at least 5 feet high and on the ceiling is fine as well. Carbon Monoxide is a little lighter than air and will mix with the air in your home and rise. The particles are so small that they can go through walls as well.
