About this deal:
Our research indicates that at the time of this post, that Klipsch R-41M Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) is $20 lower (~18.2% savings) than the next best available price from a reputable merchant with prices starting from $109.99.
Personal opinion/experience: After being obsessively in love with Klipsch for at least a decade, I arrived to the conclusion that klipsch in general may be very good for movies, but not so much for music due to their harsh tweeters. And this model in general is of their lower end line, which have aluminum tweeters that are their harsher sounding ones. All in all, due to my use for both movies and music, I had to migrate to non-horn tweeter speakers and have no regrets.
Would this be better than 2.1 THX for a study? I somehow lean towards a dedicated subwoofer but curious to know what others' inputs.
These are passive bookshelf speakers. You will need an amplifier. Highly recommend a sub if you go that route. 2.1 promedia has better lows because of the sub.
Can these be used as rear speakers for a surround setup ?
I'm sure they can, but I used them as front R L speakers. Also picked up the sub when it was on sale at Costco. Bought a center speaker locally. For rears I have round ceiling speakers as they are not that big and don't get much love from movies. Also space.

I'd say this would be their best function.
They are very good as surround speakers or as presence speakers in a home theater setup.
Mids to Highs are good, then if you cover the low end with a sub or better main speakers you are good to go. Love the magnetic grill on them.

I bought two pairs the last time they were on sale for $70/pair. I used one pair as fronts and one pair as rears and they have been fantastic. Nothing will beat these for the price.

I have two of these for rears in a 5.1 setup with two klipsch tower fronts and klipach center. They sound great. Way better sound than the smaller Sony rears I had previously. These are great for rears.
