It's detects CO, not CO2. CO is slightly lighter than air, and diffuses throughout it.

Here's a link actually from Google why mounting carbon monoxide detectors low is a myth: https://support.google.com/google...9392?hl=en

Stay awayyyyyy from their other products such as sealed 10 year fire alarms interconnected systems, 4x I have failed, low battery within 2 years or less or the worst middle of the night go off nearly giving my wife and dogs heart attacks... Yes I vaccum the vents, yes customer service sucks and had to wait 4 weeks for shipping.... Kidde you not... Never again!

Read recent reviews, the units seem to be faulty. I would not take a chance on an item like this.

I personally prefer the ones that announce the type of threat.

Carbon Monoxide is known as the silent killer for a reason - its odorless and causes confusion. Imagine the alarm going off in the middle of the night only to be silenced, because you think you're half asleep and can't see "the fire", but in reality the gas has caused confusion and you think it's a false alarm.

The alarm blaring "CO detected" is a better warning IMHO.

Edit: So it turns out this one does have the voice, after all.

This one is ionization not photoelectric. It's always been my understanding you really want photoelectric, sensing smoldering smoke much faster. This is not my Forte but that's what I've read.

Looks like the storefront is Kidde themselves.

I have had these for home and cabin since 2016. In my experience, they've worked fine and have gone off due to campfire smoke and overcooked bacon. Thanks OP.

I have had the same experience with a couple different models from First Alert brand. Premature failures. Not sure if it was the sensor (I did clean it also) or "10 yr" battery, but it drove me nuts. Was hoping Kidde were more reliable, since they are normally more expensive.

I have both the hard wired and battery versions from kidde and both work well. Keep in mind they're linked so if you have more than one they all go off together, which is a good thing if the source is far away from the bedroom for instance. I think most do this nowadays.

One of the battery ones did fail and i was able to get it replaced under warranty so customer service is available.

Thank you for this, Op. Been looking for a non-wired with battery operated.

I bought these a few months ago and we decided to get hardwired. Amazon still refunded my money. I had to use live chat. I did not need to return the detectors.
