I have two of these devices and I absolutely love Android TV and this device is a great value but yes, it locks up on me all the time. I'm constantly having to unplug it and plug it back in order to get it working again.

What can lineage os do that stock android tv can't? I'm regit curious as I'd like to run some basic emulators on it.

Honestly most people don't need to be doing custom roms. It's useful if you wanna have root to do kernel tweaking and other deeper items, but emulators are fine for stock anyways. Using ADB to change default launcher is easy too

I've heard you can get a OTG USB splitter. One side provides power and other side you plug in your storage.

I have been thinking of changing out my mi box for something different. This is cheap enough for me to try out. My local tv provider uses an app to watch tv, and the mi box has a problem of hard resetting while I am trying to watch football. I hope this will tide me over until I find a Nvidia shield pro on sale.

I do wish this had USB built in instead of having to use an otg adapter. I could use that for emulators or Kodi. Overall it seems like a lateral move from the mi box (mdz 16 ab) to this Onn box, but I hope the s905y2 will be better than the s905x-h I currently have.

This makes the box very tempting. The custom rom may address the lockups people are complaining about. But the lack of USB port and sdcard are also big drawbacks for me, unless I go the OTG route. Decisions…decisions…

You can get an OTG adapter and connect hard drive to it if you want. But yeah wish there was an extra port
