Picked one these up a few nights ago when I was at WM but haven't gotten around to setting it up yet. Going to see if it supports a NTFS formatted drive via an OTG cable I have handy. I record IPTV streams occasionally and would like to get around the 4GB file size restriction of the Firesticks..

I have two of these devices and I absolutely love Android TV and this device is a great value but yes, it locks up on me all the time. I'm constantly having to unplug it and plug it back in order to get it working again.
Ty. I don't get the logic for anybody that has a smart TV, Fire stick etc.

I know it's just $20, and I know it's a different deviceโ€ฆ but I bought an ONN brand router for my folks years ago. DOA. Got a replacement. Constant drops. Tried getting support for it. Non-existent.

yes. this.

tivo stream 4k is the best budget streamer out there. I got my shield for the front room, and all of these tivo units for the bedrooms.

works great. zero issues, fast, and great remote.
Absolutely agree. Not saying anything about the Onn, but for people unable to find the Onn...the Tivo is a great one too.

How long ago was this? As soon as I unboxed it there was a software update and I've been using it ever since. No stutters, lags, or freezing of any kind.
Back in the spring, I think it received 2 updates in the few months I used it and neither did anything to help the freezing. I read somewhere that the Onn version just got another update recently that's supposed to address this issue, but I'm skeptical it will work.

I have both the Shield TV 2017 and a Tivo Stream 4K. One of the best uses over the Fire stick 4K is I can watch protected content on my HD Homerun Prime with the Android boxes, which the Fire TV does not support. I might pick one of these Onn devices up since my android TV is much slower than an external box.

It has newer and slightly faster processor but the same amount of RAM (2GB) and no USB slot. You can use a microUSB OTG cable to add a USB slot for storage etc... I am replacing my Firesticks with these. The new FireOS on basic Firesticks is way too laggy and full of auto playing ads. FYI there is no official Amazon Video app for this device (like many android TV boxes) and you have to sideload an APK.

Price aside, how does this compare to the Roku? I have an extra TV and would decide between this or another Roku.

Anyone try the remote that comes with this on other devices?

Specifically, I have Shield's (various generations/types) on all my TV's, and I've long been on the hunt for a perfect remote. Don't get me started on the stock ones.

I have a couple of these [amazon.com], and while the price isn't bad, it doesn't do direct tv volume control (seems like any remote should though via CEC, no?).

I also have one newer FireTV remote, which works like I want it, but getting lots of these gets pricey and they tend to go to 'sleep' quite and take a hot minute to wake up. Annoying when you want to do, well, something, right away.

I'm looking for a remote that has these features:
  • direct volume control to TV (IR or CEC, doesn't matter to me)
  • available separately or with a box/dongle for cheap
  • aftermarket support for those silicon sleeves
  • normal android buttons, but dedicated netflix/hulu/etc buttons not a deal breaker (it is what it is I guess...)
  • functional alexa/hey google support not required
