Maybe I'm not understanding, but when I press the power button on my remote, the tv and avr both power on (and off for that matter) and the remote is set to use the avr for volume up and down.

The only issue I've found so far is the audio will cut out and the only way I can get it back is by rebooting the onn box. I haven't spent much time troubleshooting because it's only happened a few times in the month I've had it.
With your ONN? I'll have to reboot/reset it up and see if I can get it to work.

Yes with the white onn remote that came with it.

Side note. I'm mostly a lurker, but I'm at ls2 daily.

ONN correctly plays 5.1 from AAC sources, shows as Dolby Digital on my amp.

Settings:
ONN device preferences: make sure surround is set to auto not manual.
Kodi, under Audio enable passthrough and enable all the decoding types after you open up the options by going into advanced.

I guess I had confused my ONN previously with my plethora of audio choices I kept changing which led to it clipping the audio. I wish there was a way to hard reboot this guy w/o resorting to digging into my rats nest of a media cabinet and unplugging it.

Still gonna return the ONN, the Tivo's remote feels better in my hand. Either would work fine though.

Pretty crazy, as a proof of concept I enabled 4 football streams and they played, lol. Felt like I was in a war room. A bit of buffering, so either need to hard wire or see if I can "degrade" the 3 channels that weren't at the for front. I'm using Tivimate Pro/Premium.
Not everyone uses Kodi.

I'm all ears to other solutions on how to play local media in 5.1 correctly.

Me too (all ears).

I was being a tad snarky, but I'm all in on Plex. I'm not going to switch to Kodi just to play AAC files in 5.1. I'll stay in the Roku ecosphere for now. Only reason I was looking outside Roku was their constant feuds with content providers (HBOmax, YouTube, Amazon Prime feud coming next year)....I just wanted options.

If someone knows a way to get Plex to force 5.1 AAC audio to play in 5.1 on Chromecast I'm all ears.

Chromecast's remote is supposedly slippery. ONN doesn't have Dolby Vision enabled.

i noticed this too and there are no raised dots on any of the buttons so you have to almost always look at the remote.

Is the AAC issue present on the Chromecast with Google TV too? I haven't seen much complaints about it but to be honest this is the first place I've seen people discuss the problem with the Onn and Tivo devices, so I don't know if this happens on all three. A lot of people don't seem to even realize that they're downmixing multi channel AAC to stereo.

How are you configuring it, the power button, is it mapped to HDMI CEC?
My receiver is old as hack so I dont expect it to work, but my LG TV has simplink which I supposed it means HDMI CEC so I thought if the power button is HDMI CEC, it would power off the streaming box and then TV itself (nope). Mapping it to the TV's power (infrared) would power the tv off, but not the streaming box itself (still white LED light).

Woot! Got it to work.

I had turned off my HDMI CEC junk on my tv. So I had to turn it back on.

Then in the ONN I set the power button to control TV (CEC), other options were TV Vizio or AVR Sony.

Now it works. Hitting the power button on the ONN will turn everything (streamer, tv, avr) on or off.

Google Android TV could really be more verbose on the screen with what each option is and give sample scenarios for everything, along with common pitfalls and trouble shooting tips. When 3 devices are trying to tango it's hard trying to troubleshoot or figure out the necessary setup needed.

The product page on Walmart now says:
"Buy an Android TV device and get 6 months of Peacock Premium at no extra cost".
Is this a new offer or was already included?

The volume control display on screen when you use the volume buttons on remote shows sometime. But mostly not. The volume goes up and down appropriately though. Anyone know a solution?
