Is the AAC issue present on the Chromecast with Google TV too? I haven't seen much complaints about it but to be honest this is the first place I've seen people discuss the problem with the Onn and Tivo devices, so I don't know if this happens on all three. A lot of people don't seem to even realize that they're downmixing multi channel AAC to stereo.
I got a free CCwGTV via the Sling TV deal. I set it up today and am happy to report it handles AAC multi-channel audio perfectly. Using Plex for my home media server, my Onkyo receiver reports 5.1 and 7.1 input and output. I was pleasantly surprised t does true 7.1 AAC and delivers it perfectly.

While the interface of the Onn and the CCwGTV are similar, there's clearly more under the hood with either hardware and/or software for AAC support. Knowing this, I decided to jump on the 6 month Netflix with CCwGTV for $90 deal...picked up 3 more.

Hard to beat the price but a lot of competition. Xiaomi has unveiled its new Xiaomi TV Stick 4K. While there hasn't been a official announcement, the product can already be found on their website. https://thestreamable.com/news/xi...upports-4k

Thanks for reporting back on this. This does help me decide moving forward. I'm using the Onn with a soundbar and the TV itself doesn't support AAC through HDMI ARC, so for this TV, I'll keep the Onn as it's irrelevant if multi-channel AAC works or not. In the future when I want to replace the streaming device for a TV with an A/V receiver, I will likely buy something like CCwGTV or something backed by a major player. I have actually mentioned this earlier, but these cheap streaming devices often have some quirk or minor issue, which is what makes me skeptical it's worth saving $10-$20 because those savings can be offset by potential headaches.

It's the little things that often separate the generic or off-brand devices from the better supported devices. Of course, most people can just try to force multi channel AAC using the Kodi workaround another poster mentioned earlier, but how many people will know how to troubleshoot that if they were to get this. It's just another time wasting effort that is not necessary out of the box with better devices. For most people the minor bugs or issues won't affect them, but for those who actually have higher end A/V equipment and are more discerning, they won't like having issues like this.

Just for curiosities sake, I will test out the Onn again with the A/V receiver again with Plex to see if it still has the AAC problem with the latest update. Perhaps it's something that got resolved with the latest Onn update. Or maybe it's an issue with the Plex app directly, in which case I'd still say getting the CCwGTV would be best because that would mean Plex has better support for that device, which is likely the case. I'm actually leaning towards the latter because another person here said the issue is present with Plex and VLC on the Tivo 4K Streamer, which is resolved using Kodi. There might be some hardware thing these app developers aren't taking into account with these development build "Chromecasts" and it's causing an issue with AAC playback.

It'll be interesting if the Onn update resolves the issue with multi-channel AAC. If you can update us I'd be interested. The Onn and the CCwGTV interface experience are practically identical. For $20, the Onn would be a no-brainer purchase for me if it did AAC correctly.

Anyone know how to power this device off? It seems to be always on. I don't see any power options in the Settings.

Pressing power button on the remote turns mine off. LED goes from green to red.

My LED is white in use. Power button doesn't do anything to the device, only turns on my TV.

Maybe you're right about the white. It's supposed to turn red when you power off though. It did with the previous firmware version, anyway. Maybe it only powers down if HDMI CEC is enabled and it detects the TV has shut off. I can't check because I've since plugged mine directly into the TV USB port so it hard powers off when I turn off my TV.

You can go to settings > remote buttons at the bottom of the settings screen. You can specify what the remote power buttons will do. Probably it's set to turn tv on and off.

That's what I have set it to. Onn stays white for a long time. I see it as red if it has not been used for a long time.

The Onn still won't do AAC multichannel even with the latest update (oct 2021).

The offer was on my TV screen, I suppose it comes from the Onn 4k device.
