because wifi6 is worthless for a residence

there's little point in buying any new router.
this issue gets debated here on pretty much
every router sale thread, so buckle up Ha ha

Ok sincere question, I'm ignorant about this so bare with me. My only issue is I don't get good signal on my ground floor. A few mesh wifj systems have had deals (dual band) but I was hesitant to pull the trigger because they're not wifi 6. But it sounds like those would work fine if all I want is 5-10 devices to work at once, and full home coverage?

Yes, it's 4*4 and higher speed.

you can simply add a repeater within range of the dead spot - or buy this and use your existing router as an AP or repeater. this router also supports AI-Mesh so you can add AI-Mesh capable devices as needed in the future. This is more than enough for 5-10 devices, coverage should be plenty for a typical home

I bought this router for $230 - 4 weeks ago from Best Buy. I have around 25 devices connected to it at all times, hardwired, 2.4g and 5g.

I'm using it to replace my Verizon FiOS modem/router and so far it's been awesome. I really love the ability to configure everything via the GUI within the webapp as well as the Android app. It does use Trend Micro for QOS and other features for those that are privacy concerned. I use my own DNS server with Adguard Home.

Range and speed is great so far, its centrally located in a 3k sqft house with two floors.

Anyone have this router and can comment? Anyone ever try it with a third party firmware too?

Not compatible with any 3rd party firmware I'm aware of.

got mine yesterday at Best Buy for $170, excellent router, now I get almost full download speeds in all upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, upload is still the same as my old ac68u router which I planned to use as part of mesh but probably don't need to as speed and range is good enough for my 1800sf home.

Were you able to use the coupon online?

what is "gaming" about this router? just the look?

These Asus gaming routers have a QOS feature that prioritizes gaming traffic and supposedly reduces latency.

Performs worse in some cases, at least with early firmware and AC clients, but for AX clients sure.

AX68U has a better main CPU from the AC86U (BCM4096) and a better 3x3 2.4G radio relative to the 2x2 SoC variant on 82U.

AX68U is pretty much an AX86U with a weaker 3x3 5G Radio. Main CPU and 2.4G are pretty much identical. Only real difference is internal mem storage/RAM on 2 disabled cores on the 4906 variant of 4908 (4 core).. Technically the AX68U has "4 cores" if we're comparing it relative to the 82U... AX68U is 2 main + 2 Radio design. 82U is 3+1 design given SoC nature.

AX68U is competitive with AX86U in terms of legacy AC performance at range, 82u falls behind, but has better AX performance due to larger MIMO. 3x3 vs 4x4. SNR helps.

I'm biased to the 68U because I feel its a "higher end" product internally, but the 82U would be competitive if real world performance matched AX86U in 5G. 82U and 86U share same AX 5G radio, but 82 performs worse for whatever reason. (Amplifiers, antennas, real world positioning etc.. )

So I have a 3 point mesh with Google Wifi but also want to test wireless VR limits. What is the benefit of this over the mesh network with 5g band?
