I would like to know where people are using these smart plugs. I can understand something like my Christmas tree, but what are others using them for. I would really like to know.

Controlling a fan, dehumidifier, and air purifier.
I also use them for dumb lights that I haven't switched to smart yet and don't care about brightness, e.g. floor lamps in the dining room or living room.

I also used this with my LIPO battery chargers to remotely monitor them since its dangerous to leave LIPOs plugged in too long. My biggest use case is in my studio where I have all of my studio LED panels plugged into smart plugs and I can turn on all of my studio lights with a simple voice command.

I don't use these amazon plugs though, terrible value for money imo. You can get stuff compatible with smart life for waaay cheaper e.g. urlhasbeenblocked(?)

i wouldnt go to the extreme cheapness with things as the cheapest might be the ones that go rogue and take over your LAN and add it to some rogue botnet.

Code did not work for my account. I have purchased these in the distant past for this price, so that could be problem.

The plugs work pretty well, but are made for the Amazon ecosystem, so keep that in mind if you are interested in the Google Home environment, z-wave, and/or zigbee.

Eh most of them use smart life, which is basically the open source Tuya. I believe they also all run on the Tuya servers. If you go with something like urlhasbeenblocked its pretty solid and safe.

Thanks for the reply. I have 3 of these I believe and do not use any of them...yet. I have mostly ceiling lights that we added when I moved into this house. I have 2 of those smart lights and only use one as they are not as bright as normal LED lights, but controlling the color is pretty neat, but hardly use it. I do not think I would want to control my computer or other electronics with them. One of my units is a power strip with separate controls for each socket. I may use one for controlling the Klipsch Promedia speakers as there is no off/on switch, but it may add stress on the electronics going off and on.

Hence why I asked the question.

I would love to get something like this for a 3-way wall switch that does not require a dedicated neutral wire. My kids are always leaving the lights on. Any good suggestions for a 3-way wall switch?
