The "carrier lock" silently changed to "No SIM restrictions" about 65 hours after request was submitted. I didn't do anything,

My son has a T-mobile locked Oneplus 7T that was bought from ebay couple of months ago. I then inserted the T-mobile SIM into that phone and requested permanent unlock in the Setting. It was approved immediately.

So far T-mobile is the most friendly carrier to unlock a phone.

Just got denied :/ unfortunate
We have a Magenta plan. But apparently, It's not 5G eligible and thus T-Mobile won't let us activate. But the magenta IS 5G enabled, so an associate then told us that, since we don't have at least one or two devices already on the plan with 5G, we can't do this promo.
Hope that helps someone else

EDIT: T-Mobile said the above is false and to call Best Buy. Talked with a few Best Buy people over the phone. They said the only reason they can think of would be because I have an old version of the Magenta plan that doesn't have 5G enabled. And I would have to upgrade. So I'll be checking with T-Mobile later

With a 12 pro I had absolutely no intention of upgrading but with this deal why not???

Just got off the phone with a Best Buy rep cause I thought the same thing. Gonna edit my original post, but they said the only reason they can think of would be because I have an old version of the Magenta plan that doesn't have 5G enabled. And I would have to upgrade. I agree with you on this. Regardless if i had gotten taxed on full amount or not, i would have still went through with the purchase as i think it is a pretty great deal

Try going to the store to create the T-Mobile account. It's basically a security check on T-Mobile side that is failing. Their online system is not integrated well with carrier so it's not telling the real issue.

Do you have to trade in the old phone the same day you pick up the new one? If not, what is the process of trading it in? Would I have to go back to Best Buy a second time or do they give you mailing instructions? Thanks!

Yes. If the new one is available. So do a full backup and go. The trade in amount is immediately credited towards new purchase.
