this is arguably slightly more effort than having a step-on trash can, i can attest to that since i've used both

also, this can takes much more work when replacing the trash bag. in a step-on can, you prop up the lid, and pull out the bag. in this can however, you completely pull out the top, then pull out the ring that sits between the top and the main body of the trash can, and THEN get the trash bag out. and then once you replace the bag, you have to put the ring and the top back in place.... overall much more work than one might imagine

but i will still prefer this can, because it's just so much cooler!

Those 5000mAh lipstick USB batteries will fit in there, just need to slice a USB cable into the battery terminals. One charge can last 1-2 weeks.

Don't use it for the kitchen, as soon as you wash it, all the gears will rust and the circuit board will die eventually. I tried, even took out the circuit board and sprayed a few layers of PlastiDip to waterproof it before hand, died a year in. Still nice using it manually. I'm currently in the process of building an external auto-opener with either Arduino or Pi Zero with proximity sensors and a motor, the idea is to hook a string to lift/lower the lid. That way, I can still wash the lid every bag change as I'm doing now.

Got a black one for $25 last time. Only bad is it opens when i walk by. Is there a way to adjust sensitivity?

I've seen reviews that the open sensor is very sensitive and will openore frequently than desired. Have you had the same experience? If I get this, it will have to go in a high travel area of the house so I'm a bit weary of hearing it open/close all day

Yes, it will open every time you walk by. We changed the location of ours because of it.

I paid $12 for a black one last time, saw ppl paid $10. Mine is placed at the entrance of the kitchen and I have to walk by closely, A piece of electrical tape covering 1/2 to 2/3 of the sensor does the trick.

I could not agree more, just so cool you gotta have it! I have had my two for 4 or 5 years and they are still going strong. The battery compartment lid clips/hinges broke after a couple of years, but that is what duct tape is for, right? To be honest, I put a metal bracket there with screws, so it is secured 100%. I replace the batteries a couple of times a year so no biggie.

I paid $15.00 a can last month and got three of them delivered. I love 'em, they are metal and very sturdy. The automatic opening works great. A big improvement over plastic cans. They never sell them for the $48 price. That's deceptive pricing to make them look like you're getting a good deal.

Surprised to see positive comments on this. I've tried it twice, figuring I might have had a lemon first time around. My batteries did drain quickly and it eventually wouldn't work even with new batteries.

I got this 3 months ago. The motor has already stopped closing the lid. My last one lasted 6 years before failing. This thing is trash.

Pieces of pizza, meat, fruit, ... staying in the trash can just a day or two will stink the lid, their vapor sticks to the inside and underside that would require washing with dish soap and even some rubbing to get the dried pieces off.
