Set up PayPal so you can pay with QR codes. Link your Chase freedom flex as the payment method.

CVS is one of the few places that take PayPal QR codes as payment. It's been recommended to use self checkout, if possible. Once you add the gift card, DO NOT click any payment method on the self checkout terminal. Instead, scan your PayPal QR code like you are buying something. Then it will allow you to checkout and pay with PayPal.

If it does indeed stack with the 2% back at drug stores as the other thread suggests, that's 11% back on up to $1500.
I don't think you read the whole post...
It is only for Freedom Flex.

Uhh... Go to any of those categories to buy gift cards to the store of your choice. 9%.
You are right.
The one way to make this happen is to use Paypal at CVS or Walgreens and buy Apple gift cards for him to buy the Macbook Pro.
Of course, if he lived near a Giant Eagle he can use Paypal to buy Apple gift cards to buy the Macbook Pro.
There is may be some way to use pay using Paypal with a gas app and buy Apple gift cards.

I was trying to read the FAQ but it doesn't explicitly say, but Lyft is also in the 5% category until March, so would that count under the travel category for 9% cash back? I am guessing it would because of the dining example they gave where you would get 7% cash back (which is awesome btw)

I just called Chase and "switched" my Chase Freedom to Chase Flex. It's simple to do, no credit check, only hassle is the CC # will change (also changes from Visa to Mastercard) so I have to update the CC # on the merchants who use the old one. I didn't want to open a new card (my credit is frozen) and the rewards are better with Flex
Thanks for mentioning that. Changing from Freedom (Visa) to Flex (Mastercard) would be a big deal for people like me with Costco memberships.

I have the old Freedom Visa (non-Flex), but I was able to activate the offer from the OP's link. Does it mean it worked?

Is there an "easy" way (such as buying gift cards) to max out the savings for this?

I always wana check out these different sites that aren't part of the original domain. chasebonus.com. Did whois check on it and chase.com. Both are with markmonitor; a domain security company that specializes in legit business domains... So that was nice to know.

I have a chase freedom, didn't work for me. I see the comment above mentioned flex version of the card. oh well, would'a been nice.
you can call chase and change the freedom to flex at no cost and no credit check. This card replaces the regular freedom and its basically an upgrade. So why wouldnt you do it it also has more benefits.

for some people, Visa vs Mastercard matters.

I personally have both (had an OG Freedom, and product changed a Sapphire Preferred to Freedom Flex), which gives me the ability to earn 5x points on up to $3000 quarterly.

Considering changing my Freedom Unlimited to a Freedom Flex since I think I'll get more out of the rotating 5% categories. I want the Flex but don't want a hard pull. They let me product change the original Freedom to Unlimited a few months ago.

I tried buying a $500 serve visa card at CVS and failed. First I went to the self-check out and the transaction stalled because it was over $250. A cashier then rings me up on a cash register and asks for my ID and swipes it into the system. Then when it comes time to pay he scans my PayPal QR code and tells me that it's not going through. So I aborted that transaction and tried with Vanilla Visa GC at a the self-check-out but that too failed due to being over $250. What did I or the cashier do wrong and is it bad sign that they swiped my ID for such low transaction amount?

Exact ditto for me. Not sure what is wrong and how to rectify? If you got an answer please post back. Thanks.

To all of you who are trying to optimize, like me, just wanted to add a bit to the discussion. In order to optimize the rewards, you would want to select a category that is on the list but also accepts Paypal. For example, a person would use PayPal to buy gift cards from a drugstore like CVS or Walgreens. Although it is less than optimal, it still is helpful to know that your top spend category will get 5% even if it's not paid through PayPal. For example, you could spend on grocery. So you'll get 5% on PayPal stuff AND 5% on Grocery.

I think 9% savings on GC purchases is not worth the risk in this deal. You will have to order the GCs online paid with Paypal for in-store pickup. You don't know whether the GCs are correctly loaded or the store associates screwed it up. Once you pick up the GC order and step out of the door, you will have a big headache if you find out problems with the GCs later since GCs are not returnable.

Today I went to my local CVS and used Paypal to buy $500 VISA gift card.
The cashier scanned the back of my driver's license.
I think this is standard procedure for purchases over $200.
I asked and was told that $200 is the limit on self-checkout of gift card.
I did not ask and did not try Paypal at self-checkout.
I had the Paypal open and chose the Pay tab.
This worked flawlessly.
Chase sent an email acknowledging that I used Paypal at CVS #### $505.95

"If it does indeed stack with the 2% back at drug stores" please explains about 2%. 2% from where?
Also can I just use regular checkout and not self checkout?
