Newegg's customer service had tanked over the last few years. I wouldn't buy anything from them certainly not this expensive. They change their return policy on a whim.

I just looked at energy bill, its 4.8 kWh for me on my bill.
yeah, im ordering one. (It wont let me) says its out of stock at costco, but you better believe im grabbing one, gonna leave that sucker in garage all winter long (nice and chilly) 60* lol

I have a msi ge76 3060 that I game on, but im gonna buy the 3070 ge76 just for mining, costco gives 4 year warranty, so I dont even care about running it into the ground.

Check out the walmart deal on the lenovo 5 pro with the 3070 for 1399. Capital One is offering 8% cash back and discover has 5% back. It is listed as 1529 but they are price adjusting it to 1399 to match the in store price after it ships.

well I just want the ge76 though, like personally wanted it. Lol
if it can pay itself off in a year of just sitting idle in garage, whatever. after owning my 3060, I realize how darn nice it is. (costco has 4 year warranty) which to me, is worth its weight in gold, if it dies within 4 years of mining, it'll go back. or I will stop mining and use it to game.

how much wear tear does it do to laptop? 24/7 mining? the ge76 i7-11800h, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, 3070 140 watt gpu. I'd put a little cooling fan under it too to run full-time or maybe not if not needed. like I said, winter time it'll be churning in garage in cold air. (but mainly because I dont want to hear it)

Not much as long as your temps are good. If you use trex miner and set core clock and mem to 1100, it will pull 105-110 watts on the GPU with 63mh/s on ethereum. Actual wear and tear on computer components comes mostly from thermal changes when you start them up and turn them off or run them at their high temp limits for long periods. Running your GPU at 80 degrees C or less is fine long term.

Can you give me a website or something to get into mining?

I just ordered a msi ge76 3070 for 2100.

I need to make a crypto wallet, then download program to mine, and that's it really? Is there a site to give me the basics.

Is trex the best one for this? Is 4.8kwh cheap? I guess it's 4.8 to 6.5 kwh for my area. Seems like cheap energy.

My garage is 440 square feet, 2 shared walls to house and 2 external. It stays 60 degrees all winter long and like 70-80 in summer. Stays cool due to all the insulation and everything.

Perfect for this. Toss her in, and let her run.

If you plan on selling your coin, set up a coinbase account or similar to mine direclty to that wallet. This will lessen the fees.

Thanks. I will shoot you a message one day maybe if further q's

Lol my 3060 laptop I want to use for gaming as I have 4tb of ssd' and 64gb ram in it. Really not sure if I wanna toss it into a mining rig.

But idk. Maybe have both running together. I mean a 3060 115-130 watt should pump some money out too yeah?

Can you toss another figure of profit at me?

I paid 2100 for msi ge76 3070
I paid 1400 for msi ge76 3060
Prices are after tax

If my 3060 can pay itself off in a few months, I may let it. I bet the laptop would still be perfectly fine after. Just not sure how much $$ it will churn out compared to the 3070.

If 1 year of mining would pay off both units, consider me sold.

Edit I read nvidia locks down the gpu for mining to 50% on desktops, does this affect laptops too?

I do not mine on 3060s so I am not familiar with their hasrates/power usage. Also, you need to be aware that ethereum is not going to be minable in the future once it goes proof of stake. This could happen as early as May/June 2022 but most people think it will not be until 2023 at the earliest. This will cause some upheaval in the mining community as people transition to other coins/projects. That being said, proof of work (i.e. crytpo mining) is by far the most secure, robust and decentralized protocol and it is not going away. That being said, if I can pickup RTX 3090 GPUs for under $1900 or RTX 3070 laptops for under 1400 (includes cash back sites/credit card cash back) I will buy them for mining.

So you believe I can still make money towards the initial investment? Ie. 2k I just ordered laptop.

It's November 1-5 when I get it. I bet 8 months I can churn some decent profit back towards the laptop.

I'm more inclined to do this w the Costco laptops due to 4 year warranties vs standard 1 year warranties anywhere else

I'm actually in my return period I could return my 3060… but I'm happy w it overall. I like the idea one perma mining rig that I don't care about til it pays itself down and use other laptop for games

I have 3k in laptops. One 3070 and one 3060 both msi ge76

Here are hash rates I found on Google. I don't know how hash rates turn into money. But I'm thinking letting my 3060 run too.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU:
- Stock ETH hashrate: 34 MH/s
- Optimized ETH hashrate: 38 MH/s

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU:
- Stock ETH hashrate: 45 MH/s
- Optimized ETH hashrate: 50 MH/s

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU:
- Stock ETH hashrate: 49 MH/s
- Optimized ETH hashrate: 56 MH/s

Those are low. You will get 63 on the 3070 and I imagine 50 on the 3060. You do not see much of a boost on the 3080 over the 3070 for laptops since they are power limited on the GPUs.

It is worth mentioning in this thread based on the discussion going on that if you are primarily getting these for mining, laptops are rarely the most efficient route. They are not as great with thermals as doing a desktop setup and often throttle, and mobile 3060/3070/etc is unlikely to perform close to a desktop 3060/3070/etc with persistent high processing and chance of device failure is higher because of this extra heat. Graphics cards in laptops also cannot just be swapped out like desktops. I personally think desktops are more cost-effective for mining. Sure you might pay off your laptop in a year, but pointless if you just have it mining 24/7 just to stress out the components. Also one is assuming that mining rewards stay as high as they are right now, and who knows, they could plummet at any point.

That being said I think that the main argument people have for a mining on a laptop is that they either have a spare one lying around or use it to mine while not using it. Buying a laptop to use 24/7 to mine and hope that it pays itself off after a year is silly imo when you could just buy a desktop setup with the same hash power for less and still churn out the same profits.
My iMac takes up my office for day trading or I'd get a big windows desktop.

I bought the 3060 to game on, but I wanted the 3070 but there wasn't one and now there is but unfortunately the 3070 model is expensive. 1299 price of 3060 vs 1999 Costco 3070 for same model.

Steep increase. But if it can earn it's $$ in meantime, itl pay the difference. The cooling on msi ge76 is a monster system, and I'd pair with a little fan under it

I don't mind using it to mine if doesn't really damage it, Costco gives 2 year warranty. And my cc warranty racks another 2 years on it

So if it mines for 6 months, and mining goes away. It would prob of earned the 700 diff from my 3060 to 3070.

Part of me is thinking of returning the 3060 model now and letting the 3070 mine it's heart out for most part.

If I wanna game one night with my friends, there's no reason why I can't just turn off mining and turn it back on next day right?

When you sells etherium from mining, does it generate or tell anyone? Ie. File taxes? Does the selling of it report it to any tax reporting place
