This is a nice little saw for trim / paneling work. Obviously it's not for heavy construction or even 1x trim. it's often been offered for about $129 with a free promo (small) DeWalt battery -- that's how I got mine. I used it for some small paneling cutting for repair in an RV and also some household trim work. Overall I was happy with the tool and assuming you already have enough batteries this is a fair deal.
While I wouldn't use it daily for these things, I've ripped 1/2 inch plywood a few times with mine. I also cut off 2x6 overhang on my shed roof. For the fascia. This is not a bad saw at all.
Great saw, purchased for the same price a few months ago. Perfect for small, quick cuts and rips, when you don't want to take out the bigger circular saw. It is ergonomic, and works great!

Doing that already, bamboo floor requires 1/2". I'll remove the baseboard and then I want to remove the drywall so that I can lay the floor about even with the drywall thus giving the 1/2". I'll then put the base back down (9/16") I have a flush saw for the jambs but want a quick way to get rid of that drywall that is close to the subfloor.
I don't own this tool but I've used a different tool for a similar application before. This tool looks easily ~ 1" from the left edge of the guard to the blade kerf.

The other tool I was thinking of is a Dremel Ultra-Saw. Check out the last image in the gallery here [homedepot.com]- looks like it can get damned-near flush cuts. In fact, that image looks exactly like what you want to do.

My previous usage of that saw, I borrowed it from a coworker to cut laid tile to expand a vanity - that is, cut the tile already installed. I did buy a new blade for the purpose but it worked like a champ and it allowed me to get very close to trim

Damn. I know I'll probably never use this and it will just sit in my Dewalt bag with my other power tools, but I feel like i have to buy it at this price because I probably need it real bad. Convoluted?
I feel the same way, but am resisting so far.

Yesterday I stopped at an estate sale on the way to walk my dog. Nothing I wanted, but they had 5bf of 12/4 Honduran mahogany for $5. Incredible price, but I would never use it, so I let it go. Walking my dog 3 miles it was all I could think of, so I stopped on the way home and bought it.

"The saw is not recommended to cut through MDF because of the resin adhesive that has a plastic base. This circular saw is designed for professional wood cutting and fiber cement applications. Do not cut metal, plastic, concrete, masonry. Do not use for wet tile application."

How clean were your cuts? I have a tile job coming up soon and would rather invest in the blade than renting a tile cutter, if the cut quality is similar.

They come out cleaner than my wet saw and Monolit manual cutter. Only drawback is it's more time consuming. However, my last project used 16"x47" (bedrosians textuality) tile which doesn't fit in either cutter anyway so I didn't have a choice.

If you're cutting down the long edge, make sure to support it by hand to prevent it from prematurely breaking off.

Also, I attached it to a shop vac to minimize dust. Contrary to what some might say, I used it with a wet sponge and have had no issues. It does gum up after a while, but just use a toothbrush. I've done over a hundred cuts and used 4 blades so far. Still works great.

You won't be disappointed using this for tile

Could someone educate me on why this 4-1/2" saw is preferred over 6-1/2" circular saw? the larger one seems to be more versatile to me.

Thanks, I'll have to look at that a little more but at first glance I think you have found what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Great saw. Very handy for making small cuts. Lot easier than grabbing a handsaw. Usually, I use it to cut 2x4s. However, I have used it to cut plywood up to 5/8" thick. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend this saw.

Convenience factor. It's just so easy to wield the smaller saw. You can saw with one hand, while holding the lumber with the other hand. With the 6-1/2" circular saw, you pretty much have to keep both hands on the saw. The 4-1/2" saw is the first saw I reach for when doing small jobs.

That being said, you can get a much straighter and cleaner cut using the larger saw. The larger saw also has more power and can cut deeper. So, if you have to get only one, I'd recommend getting the 6-1/2" saw.

BTW, I don't own a 6-1/2" circular saw, but I do have a corded 7-1/4" one. However, between my 4-1/2" DeWalt and my Makita 10" miter saw, I find that I almost never use the 7-1/4" saw. So, the decision of whether the 4-1/2" or the 6-1/2" saw is a better fit for you also depends on what equipment you own.

There are a lot of tools I'd suggest people get prior to buying this because its actually very specialty compared to lets say the multitool thats become very popular with many uses. With that said, its really great at what it does without needing to get out a big, heavy circular saw. It's really good for remodeling too.

Just understand that while it can do certain things the bigger tools can do, it might not be the best option.

Way easier to get out when you need to do quick fast cuts vs 6+ inch heavier circular saws.

We are talking a matter of ounces here. My 6 1/2 sits on a shelf. Pop a battery in and go.

Blades are also easier to find
