apparently the law is that if 1 "Serving" of whatever is <5cal you are allowed to call it "0 cal"....who knows why, you'd have to ask the politicians. according to USDA web site, generic yellow mustard has about 3.05cal per 5g serving. so 594 servings->1,812 cal. On the other hand, eating 6.5 lbs of mustard would probably make me lose my appetite for eating -anything- for quite a while, so that mustard diet may still have some promise! Wink
This is great for when I'm smoking ribs, brisket, or pork shoulder.

I was going to give shots to trick or treaters but maybe mustard cubes would be better. Candy is played out.

If you want good mustard go to Aldi. It is one of the few mustards that get flavor from mustard seeds instead of chemicals

The other law (in America) is that if it has less than 0.5g of fat/carb/protien (any variation of those 3), then you can say it has 0g. So a 9oz can of cooking oil spray with a serving size of, idk, 1/8th of a second of spray will have 0g fat. Stupid

Applies to trans-fat as well, so a company can adjust simply adjust a serving size on a product to "hide" that it's actually there. Look for those partially hydrogenated oils, folks. Beef products and maybe even milk can contain natural trans-fats, which are said to be OK or beneficial, though.

What chemicals? If you get a generic bottle of yellow mustard its ingredients are vinegar, salt, mustard seed, turmeric, and paprika.

In for one... or two.

Use mustard as a binder for my rubs when smoking various meats (briskets for example).

Good for a lot of other dishes as well.

yup, basically legalized nutritional lying. never could figure out how they managed to get away with getting either of those "exceptions" in the law - neither has any rational, logical basis. Even for government that's pretty flagrant corruption. Someone got a biiiiig suitcase full of cash.

The way around the fake-0 trans-fat trick is that you have to look at the ingredient list for ingredients that are inherently transfatty, as you said, (ie the hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils or similar), but of course that requires that one knows that, which most don't, they assume zero is zero. And people don't like learning stuff. The really really hate learning. Cuts into the TV watching time. Sigh. Frown
