Not much detail, but the BF ad can be found here: https://weeklyads.walmart.com/h/m...=en&type=1

and the link in the ad will take you to the (non-BF price) product page at: https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-15-.../416132914
Actually, that's a different, less powerful laptop.

The one from Target in the original post is model 15-dy2035tg. The one from Walmart is 15-dy2091wm. At first I thought these were just variations in the same model but they actually have quite different processors, at the least.

The original laptop has a i3-1125G4 processor, that benchmarks at 10,051 according to cpubenchmark.net

The Walmart black friday laptop has a i3-1115G4 processor, that benchmarks at 6,332

Benchmark comparison of CPUs [cpubenchmark.net]

It's worth noting that in that same ad you found this laptop in, Walmart also advertises this laptop [walmart.com], that is nearly identical to the one in this post, for $379.

I didn't mean to imply the $270 Walmart one was the same - others in this thread already noted it was a different flavor of the i3 chip. Also the $379 Walmart laptop you mentioned has an i5 chip - the i5-1135G7 which has a benchmark of 10,170 so slightly larger than the i3 chip in the Target laptop.

For those who are on the fence (and those who can get it) should get it!

I just picked one.

Latest tests:

Just using the HDMI output I was able to get 120Hz out from this laptop, while the BestBuy only does 60Hz.

This laptop has HDMI 2, whereas BestBuy only has HDMI 1.4

This is my opinion is also a big plus in Target laptop's favor :-)

Both USB type A connections are FAST type, whereas for BestBuy one is FAST, the other is slow.

It's a great laptop. Relatively decent specs, 8gb RAM, backlit KB (3 levels) 15 inch screen (decent size for many users), well lit, numpad keys, fingerprint reader, relatively light weight, to name a few.

I researched a lot … looked at options from Costco, WM, BestBuy, bought those and returned those, but this, in my opinion is the 'best'.

It gets charged pretty fast - from 5% charge to 85% in around 40-45mins

No running fan speed.

Fast WiFi (this is a big surprise for me) - I got approx 450mbps download speed on a 1 Gbps ATT fiber. For comparison I compared it with the i5 BestBuy Lenovo Laptop. The Lenovo gave me only 300-325mbps speeds.

Connected directly using LAN adaptor and got 922.39 Download and 899.58 Upload speeds from both USB slots, whereas BestBuy gave FAST internet speed ONLY in one USB slot :-)

Compared this and BestBuy laptops:

For this laptop:

CPUScore : 8.9
D3DScore : 9.9
DiskScore : 8.2
GraphicsScore : 8
MemoryScore : 8.9
TimeTaken : MostRecentAssessment
WinSATAssessmentState : 1
WinSPRLevel : 8
PSComputerName :

For BestBuy Lenovo laptop:

CPUScore : 9
D3DScore : 9.9
DiskScore : 9.05
GraphicsScore : 8
MemoryScore : 9
TimeTaken : MostRecentAssessment
WinSATAssessmentState : 1
WinSPRLevel : 8
PSComputerName :

The BestBuy laptop is a bit higher only on DiskScore but then the former is waay more expensive as well!

Also I was not able to install WSL/Ubuntu on BestBuy but on Target, installation of WSL/Ubuntu was a charm :-)

Next I will try to install Win 11 and PopOs (Linux). Will update.

Would highly recommend this. I am happy to recommend this - out of my research and experience.

not bad for my kiddo. he's using my old intel 5820K. some school work and mostly steam games he plays from watching YouTubers. he's currently using evga 780. I think that and hexacore is a bit overkill for his use case. I'm trying to find a way to get my old build and add it to my homelab.
And pronhub. Your kid is on pronhub.

Target's 10% off computer doesn't apply to HP. Otherwise I would bite

Yes, it can. I just picked one up as well and overall it's nice with Window 11 update.

How does the fan sound? Turns on often? These are indeed great specs, if built by HP correctly.

The fan in the $350 HP from Staples sounded horrible, could have been just the one I got! It also had a `network port, this one does not. So I figured this one is the next gen of that one.

FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC

Probably the same panel with washed out colors that everyone complains about on every HP deal $500 or less using a display with these specs.

That, and the stupid silver keyboards nobody should have ever made. Need to force the execs of these laptop companies to use their own products for a few days before releasing them.
Picked one up for a relative. 100% correct on the washed out screen and the disgusting silver keyboard. WTF were they thinking. laugh out loud

Having said that, the relative will not mind it compared to their current laptop.

Debating whether to get a laptop or a chromebook. Primary use is day trading.... so mostly internet use. Security is important since used with financial accounts. Would be nice if it can connect to a high res monitor.

Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
