If you're just looking for cheap & relatively good,
1: the HD 10 current version goes on sale for around $75-$99 often
2: the HD 10 older version is available for $74 now though compared to the new HD 10 sale price that's not that good of a discount.

Otherwise for an 8 inch fire HD, yeah, this is decent, but has a much worse (resolution etc) screen than the HD10, and half the processor cores, so if the price difference is like $20-30-$40 depending on which HD8 and HD10 one compares maybe the HD10 options are better for future proofing, better capabilities, etc.

Don't expect these to compete with ipads or samsung tablets.
These are just better alternative to the no-name trash Chinese tablets from aliexpress/wish/amazon.

If you have correct expectations, these are good. and for $55 vs original $80-100, this is a good gift option.

Why do people downvote the truth. Do not expect these to compete with ipad or samsung tablets. However, they are definitely MUCH better than no-name trash tablets, and you get a pretty decent support. Also you can trade them in for $10 + 25% off (is this still going on)

Works great for that and there is even an SD card slot for expansion. Not 100% sure that you can dl to SD for Netflix or HBO though. I have used this on a plane and camping trip without an issue.

You may think this but you would be wrong.

2019 and 2021 HD 10 share the exact same CPU/GPU MT8183 (octa core)

The 8" uses the MT8168 which is about 50% slower then the MT8183.

If you download the stuff in advace then yes.. smooth.

But if you are using the planes internet... the speed of the internet will determine how bad it will be.

It is. Believe me bro. I traded in a tablet before and it gave the the discount right away. This time it said to ship back for evaluation first. People have confirmed this on the Fire tablet 8 non plus thread.

I used Amazon Toolbox from XDA to clean one already, removed all the bloat, ad screen and it automated the 5 step Google Google play install for me. Just follow the on screen prompts and leave the thread open if you get stuck.

It could not have been easier. Done on a Fire HD 10, 11th gen.

Thank you, I am wrong indeed, if those are the processors --and this is a damn shame. I can't believe they have slower processer than 2+ year old tablet. Does the RAM help at all?

I chatted with support, he says it's all automatic and cannot comment on how quick they will do or help lock in the current pricing. He said 20% is good for 1 year from trade-in, so I said leave it as is and I will use it when I see next sale.
I think you should be safe and they should process in time for BF. It says 3-4 business day after receiving it. I am more interested in 20%

That's incorrect unfortunately, no instant discount, I chat and they insist it's automatic, see my post above, I have to wait for evaluate and processing before I can use 20% or trade-in value...

The MT8183 I find is decent. I have two fire HD 10 from 2019.

The 2019 vs 2020... there is about a 12% increase in speed due to the RAM. But that is all you are going to get.

I posted that the next CPU that Amazon will use is only like 25% faster CPU and about 3% faster GPU.

got one without ads on sale for 74$ with tax.immediately installed fire toolbox on pc, added playstore, installed custom launcher, disabled OTA. sticked it to a wall and using it as an automation and sonos controller. no games or movies, and for that its snappy and highly recommended. btw, 90 day warranty. yikes. hd 10 has 12 months. repped.
