Awesome deal and specs!!!

Not to take away from this awesome deal, but no backlit keyboard is a deal breaker for me. Lots of people don't care about that, but they'll complain about lack of Thunderbolt or USB-C charging… I don't care about the last two, but to each their own.

EDIT: Walmart reviews say no USB-C charging, but OP says theirs does.
Find me a laptop with a 5900h for $450 and I will gladly buy it.

The 1135g7 is a beast for this price point, with 16GB ram and a 512GB SSD with USB-C charging. Similarly spec'd laptops are typically $600+, including comparable Ryzen laptops
I downloaded Intel driver support assistant and it's keeping me up to date. I don't expect gateway will be releasing driver updates.
Edit: I also backed up all of the original drivers to the cloud, in the event something goes wrong I can reinstall.

First time I've heard 1135g7 called a beast. What would you call a Ryzen 9 5900h?
For normal home computing tasks I would call a Ryzen 9 overkill. Taken out of context, me calling an 1135g7 a beast would be silly. But with the context that it's for home computing and dedicated streaming, I stand by the beast terminology. This thing is fast: it boots fast and with everything I do it remains snappy and never feels bogged down or slow. I would never ask it to edit 4k videos or play Call of Duty, something a Ryzen 9 would breeze through.

If you don't need the 16gb of ram I would go with the Acer.

Does that one with dual channel? I might play some online gaming sometime, but not much

Idk the specs either, but inside it looks sharp and is plenty bright enough. The colors look good, not washed out. Outside in the sun it's a bit of a struggle. If you're going to be in the sun with it, this probably isn't the one for you.

If there was a Ryzen 9 5900H in a Gateway Slim 14.1" I'd called it overkill. In general, for these models you won't be finding any support at almost any time during their run.

Side note: The advantage of the 14.1" over the 15.6" versions of this is the chassis is less flexible by nature of the shorter levers.

And this is the reason I like iGPU intels and AMD laptops. Just about everything is covered by intel support assistant, AMD packages, windows. Most of the time if the computer has a control center thingy I lose it doing a fresh install of windows and I'm fine with that also.

I was wondering what the catch was for what seemed like an incredible deal, and then I saw that it had no backlit keyboard. Dealbreaker for me. After my last 2 laptops lacked it, I swore my next one would have it. You can always turn it off when it's not needed. Is there a somewhat more expensive version that has it?
I use backlit keyboards also and is a typical want for me.

Much more important is having USB-C charging. This simplifies life so much and really extends the usable life of whatever battery life your device has - since there's ALWAYS a USB-C charger somewhere.

I also realized that it was 4lbs, 1lb too heavy for this class of laptop. Pass.

1lb... 😂 Can't help but laugh at this complaint. Are you going up hundreds of flights of stairs daily holding your laptop? 3lb v 4lb sheesh.

This was already a good deal at $499. Specs are great and you can expand the SSD easily. Nothing comparable in this price range.

Yeah I figured... Sorry I can't help with that. I wish there was another way to find out.
Edit: A review on the Gateway USA website states "I bought one and to my surprise the USB type-c port works to charge the laptop and supports HDMI video without any problem"
Yes one review states that, and Gateway specifically says in response to two different questions that it doesn't. So I was hoping someone else who had it could chime in.
