Please consider changing the thread title from Intel Core 11th Gen i3 to Intel i3-1115G4. There are two very distinct i3 11th generation CPUs out there, the budget/value dual core i3-1115G4 and the four core i3-1125G4. The latter is an i5 in all but name, with identical Passmark scores to the immediate i5 model up the ladder (and lacking only the newer Xe-generation integrated graphics).

FYI: the following was based upon my failure to recognize this was a Chromebook. See my post here for notes on this somewhat uniquely positioned premium Chromebook. TLDR: running ChromeOS doesn't necessarily make this a better deal, but does make it one of very few options for a Chromebook shopper with these specific options on their shopping list.
This would have been a real Slickdeal with a quad core CPU. As it stands, this is really the right price as it represents a $100-ish discount on comparable, refurbished 2-in-1 laptops which do have quad core CPUs (check Micro Center).

Good luck!

Sorry for any misunderstanding, but I am not some kind of Slickdeals saboteur. Rather, I'm just another rando deals enthusiast, probably with just as much to say about power strips as PCs these days.

This is a powerful Chromebook. This is also a $400 Chromebook. You like it and I'm more in the pretty good but maybe not for everybody(?) camp. I don't think that puts us on opposite sides. I don't consider you a competitor, but rather assume that we're all working together to evaluate and promote the best deals (and maybe tamp down some of the more obnoxious shilled deals?).

At the same time, I have found some of your posts less than pleasant. With so many posts and a nice Pro flag on your profile, might I ask that if along with the volume of posts you're contributing to the community you also consider what you're doing to foster the same level of participation and engagement among the other community members?

Good luck!
Jon

Got it today.

It is blazing fast. It installed my six apps very quickly in set up. The two updates for Chrome were also very fast. Setting up my mouse and keyboard went well. The stylis sets itself up it worked the first time I tapped the screen. I am typing on it now.

It is far faster than my Ryzen 3 Desktop. It will most likely replace it Not much I do requires Windows.

The battery 58% 40 minutes to full it now says. It came uncharged so plug it in for awhile then turn it on.

The fan does run a lot. Someone added thermal paste to solve that.

You can replace the M.2 doubt I will. Prying the case open is difficult. I doubt I will care about adding more storage. Most people could do it watching some videos on how to do it.

I know we're talking Chromebooks but how does thos gen i3 compared to the it in my 2017 Pixelbook?
Performance wise it's going to crush them. 11th gen intel in Chromnebooks are a whole different level. If I recall correctly, the Pixelbooks were significantly lower power processors.

I picked this up open box for $310, this was exactly what was looking for. 8gb Chromebook, USI touchscreen compatible, sleek design, 15.6" screen. Thanks OP!
Awesome.

Chromebooks used or open box are pretty much problem free once they're power-washed (reset). Not much trouble at all.

I recommend anyone thinking about a chrome book to do some research and make sure it is a good fit for you. I know too many people that have been disappointed because they didn't understand what a chrome book was.
I'd dare say that no one who buys this Chromebook would be disappointed with it relative to any other Chromebook. The problem I see with premium Chromebook threads is in part that so many users get the idea so this is the Chromebook for me when reality these premium Chromebooks can be very targeted to premium Chromebook buyers. This particular Chromebook layers on two relatively premium features which, in combination, could justify the price for the right shopper. In fact, it has one relatively rare quality that alone might justify its price to the right buyer.
  • A 15.6" 1080p screen in a convertible form factor
  • An Intel i-series CPU (not an ARM like from MediaTek or Qualcomm; not an Intel Atom
If you're buying this Chromebook solely as a convertible 15.6" model then you're probably all set because, as common as convertible Chromebooks are, there are few to none in this size! On top of that, the larger Chromebooks often command a price premium as manufacturers typically churn out low-cost 11.6" models in volume.

If you're simply seeking a large 15.6" touch screen model you could easily find them for almost half the price. Target has the Acer CB315-3HT-C16B under DPCI 056-01-0093 for $220. That model features a much less powerful Intel N4000 CPU (an Atom-based, efficiency-oriented CPU), However, that CPU is also a great option for a large swath of Chromebooks users, including power users who utilize Android and Linux on their devices (including me!).

I wouldn't say that the CPU in this Chromebook justifies the price premium alone, but rather that this CPU is a significant value-add to the rather unique form factor of this device.

Good luck!

For Chromebook users, I'd say $400 isn't really premium. It's right in the wheelhouse for people who live in the browser and want as little friction as possible living in that world.

I personally have spent more on a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook. However, much like this ASUS, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook had a premium CPU, a convertible form factor, and the completely unique (at that time) OLED 4k screen - the latter being the key buying factor for me.

Overall, is there really a case to be made that (for example) the Jasper Lake CPUs [chromeunboxed.com] (like the N5000) are giving a rough experience to even an adventurous Chromebook user? I'm actually watching closely to see if some of the Jasper Lake models finally start dipping into sub-$200 territory. Otherwise those models are comfortably in the $200-300 space and I would suggest meet the bar I think(?) you're describing of this will probably chew up whatever you toss it.

Good luck!
Jon

Did you buy your new or one of the open box option? If open box, how's the quality?

One of the first changes I made when improving my ergonomics is move away from all keyboards (external and laptop) that had a number pad. Generally speaking it causes people to slightly turn their shoulders to the left, and on external keyboards the right hand needs to travel further to reach the mouse. The Chrome Unboxed review [youtube.com] says the numpad on this is slim, but I'm skeptical. Will try to stop by a Best Buy to see one of these in person.

I'm very happy with my 10th gen i5 Acer 713 (with exception of awful speakers). I'd love a 15" laptop with 3:2 aspect ratio and no numpad but that doesn't exist in the Chromebook world as of now. The 11th gen i3 is faster than the 10th gen i5 (and supposedly the 10th gen i7 - woah!), but the 713 is blazing fast and I don't have any performance related complaints so will skip this one. Seems like great hardware and very good reviews.

Open Box Excelent.

It came with the original box inside a larger box for shipping. Inside the box is an inner place for the Tablet and under that the charger. 3 pieces of paper very small. 45W charger though I used my 65 Watt charger to charge it just to be clear. It was open and the battery uncharged when it came. It charges very fast. Like 1.5 hours.

It looked brand new.

It is in fact slim. Three number keys are as wide as two letter keys. The keyboard is just a bit smaller than my 11" flex 3 about the same size as my desktop keyboard though the number keys are much smaller. I am typing on it now it works well but it is shallow like on all laptops. The backlight works well. The letters are a bit lit up not a lot.
