over the last few months, every time i looked at this model on amazon, it's been on sale for 25. that's the actual price. the 40 is the inflated price they mark it down from to fool people into thinking it's a deal.

The Amazon reviews give me pause; a lot of people complaining about sudden failures. Plus this price isn't hot according to a price tracking site, it is often $25.

I've had good experience with these Phillips trimmers. I have been using one of the 5000 series all-in-ones for the last few years and I absolutely love it. No oil, washable, low maintenance, and it just works. Any length you need, just twist the dial and there you go. They look like they've become "cheapified" though, since I bought mine, with lots more plastic.

This model doesn't have the dial, of course, but it comes with all of the different length adapters which I personally wouldn't be able to keep track of.

I've got the 9000 series all-in-one in my cart for when my 5000 inevitably gives out one day, but at this price, if you're looking for a decent trimmer, and don't mind the "spare parts", I wouldn't hesitate.

This looks like the Philips version I have for the last 5+ yrs, but without as many guides and no fade stuff.
Replaced Norelco (circular) and Remington (foil) shaver/trimmers. They had a different purpose. I use a razor for shaving, but my beard is fairly thin.

Next to no maintenance. Blow out the hairs after use.

The battery needs recharging, perhaps once every 6 months. It doesn't provide any feedback just before the battery dies, so I recharge it before any longer trimming tasks if I don't have time to charge it. I'm not worried about the battery life at all.

Wish my set had longer hair guides. 7/8 inch is the longest. Getting other attachments is pricey, so only get the kit that includes all the guides you need.

I use an older model of the same and have for 4 years. I bought 5 for xmas presents and I have had 0 complaints.

If mine ever breaks, I'm buying another one as I really like this trimmer for my beard with no attachments.

Is it worth spending a little more to get the 7000 series? Just need something to line up my beard and neck.

Upgrades don't necessarily look like they're worth the nearly 2X cost, but that is largely an opinion based thing.

You did say "just need" which implies your subconscious probably thinks this is plenty 🤔. I'm not in sales for Norelco, I say stick with the model you had in mind before you got to the showroom 🙂

I am not a fan of the 7000 (same use case as you - trim my beard). Combs do not provide the length I would like and the overall user experience for me is not great. I know this gets great reviews so maybe I am the outlier.

hmm thats very interesting. Might bite the bullet on the 5000 series, can't go wrong for 25 bucks. Hope you're having a nice weekend Smilie

you'll never find one that has zero bad reviews. It's got 65K reviews, there will be issues with every single trimmer and negative reviews.
