I learned real quick that Iike a dedicated fingerprint button. With it behind the screen, the screen has to be on for it to work. I like leaving ambient screen, auto brightness and all that stuff off, and if you leave fingerprint enabled, the Pixel doesn't allow you to turn off ambient display. Even with "lift to check" and everything else disabled, the screen still lights up with movement and what not (as of now the only way to keep your ambient screen off is to disable fingerprint). Highly annoying. unlocking my phone is something I do prob 50+ times a day. With a dedicated button on the back and I can easily unlock the phone before I remove it from my pocket.
For you, sure.
For others? $399 is a good deal for quick software updates, good cameras, 5g, water resistance, and other features this phone has.
I think this is the first pixel phone to not have the free Google photo cloud storage. Every pixel after this are in the same boat, including the 6 and 6 pro. That to me was the selling point of pixel. Sure it's not too bad to pay for a plan to get more storage, but that adds up over time, and photos and videos will only get bigger and use more. It's sad that Google decides to discontinue that on the later pixels. I'd rather pay 50 more to have it upload free for life…

This is the reason I decided to stick to my Pixel 4a 5g for a while longer. I don't think many people are aware of this.
Can always make the OS switch to Lineage OS. You can get the security updates and with some fiddling, you can get all functions of the phone
Not op but I am on VZW with my P3, so they have the bootloader locked. I wonder if VZW could unlock it since hone is paid off and over 2 years since purchased...I will ask them I suppose.
I also dislike the FP under glass sensor on my new P6. Trying to find a compatible tempered glass screen protector now. Have to enable more sensitive touch, and disable automation to even try them according to the info the seller sent me, which I don't mind doing. Wish the first seller I just returned some from had told me this info instead of simply claiming compatibility in some of the reviews and not compatible in others.

Is there a way to unlock the bootloader yourself? I know there is lineage os documentation that talks about the process

On VZW models the option (OEM Unlocking) is grayed out in Dev mode.
Here is the short answer: Can't do it for Verizon model Pixels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYkmkH8wxSI
In 2019, P2 and I got the 3a XL for $329, marked down from $479. I'll consider that $150 a slick deal. Not that we're looking to upgrade anyway, we're gonna hold out for another release cycle. Maybe even a year for the Pixel 6a.
Same here. Our 3a XLs are still pretty good and not a lot of incentives for me to upgrade now.

I returned my P6 on Friday. Similar reasons.. on screen finger sensor was a pain. Overall phone just felt to chunky/thick for a 2021 phone and the haptic feedback was terrible on it, the motor being up top gave very faded vibrations.
Good phone, but this really should be a lot cheaper considering some of the deals on flagships direct from the carriers. The Galaxy S21 or iPhone 12 has been this low.
Where can I buy iphone for 399 with no contract etc?
