WD online (as does Amazon recently) ships with plastic end caps that is a snug fit inside a just big enough individual drive cardboard box. so there is no movement of drive inside box. WD would probably reject warranty replacement if you shipped it to them back packed like Newegg does. Look up their packing instructions for RMA.
Newegg probably gets the big cases that contain the drives in a snug individual foam insert holding them securely and repacks them individually for shipping. On shudders to think what would happen if you were to order two and they came playing roller derby inside the box. This is assuming the aditional handling of bare drive by Newegg packers to repack is done properly.

Looks like the shipping constraints have eased to increase supply like for PSUs recently with prices coming back to normal. This is a good price even for normal pricing in the recent past.

You have to figure that most people are comparing these to SSDs as that's what they interact most with. They aren't rating this in comparison to other "conventional" drives, but to all the hard drives that they interact with.
