They had both this Slim Pro 7i and Ideapad 5 Pro on display at my store.. It seemed like the Ideapad 5 had more plastics, including a plastic trackpad. As far as what you get by paying $200 more for the Slim 7i Pro, you get an all-metal build, Thunderbolt 4, 400nit higher resolution 90hz screen, and 1tb SSD vs 512 on the Ideapad.. You do get a HDMI and microSD reader on the Ideapad 5 though.. I'd probably be happy with either machine, but I do enjoy using Thunderbolt storage and connecting eGPUs on occasion so the Slim 7i Pro was a better choice for me.. Plus the brighter screen is gorgeous on the Slim 7i Pro.

Please list similar/better machines for the money!
Specs are very good on this, hard to beat plus this is Intel EVO. I would be all over this if it was a Two-In-One. I'm planning on the Surface Pro 8 deal even though this processor beats out the one on the Surface 8

Pulled the trigger. I watched a couple of reviews on Youtube. It's basically a Windows Macbook for cheaper, but with so-so battery life.

The display is among the best out there and will probably be hard to beat at this price point. But from reviews, that high resolution can cause the battery life to tank to 8 hours. Not a big deal for me as I'm almost always near an outlet and in the few times I'm not, I generally need no more than 4 hours to get some work done.

The one thing you're losing vs getting a Thinkpad is that classic Thinkpad keyboard. This laptop's keyboard is pretty alright if not above average. But it's not going to have the key travel of say a T14 or a Carbon.

EDIT: Don't forget the 2-year warranty is standard. Buy it using the Costco Visa card and it gets a whopping total of 4 years of warranty support.

Been enjoying my unit for the past 2 days.. I only have a SP8 to compare to.. It smokes the performance of the SP8 for sure,.. The fans kick on relatively quickly for the most mundane tasks but they are very silent/wooshy at least. Battery life beats the SP8 except for in idle scenarios that i've seen but it's close.

For fun I liquid metal'd my Slim 7i Pro and it dropped about 12c across the board on temps.. It now can sustain a 4.3ghz all-core turbo boost indefinitely while staying around 83c..

Only thing that's mildly disappointing vs the SP8 for is the speakers.. SP8 speakers are insanely good with actual depth/bass.. The Slim 7i Pro speakers are passable, but generally trash. But hey, there's 1k+ price difference between these units.

By liquid metal, did you apply a specific cooling paste? I might have to check that out...

I bought the ideapad 5 for $700. ABut are you sure anout the 2+2 year with visa card? I asked the person in store and he said visa warranty is removed and replaced with All state. For all state, you need to pay extra $99 for the the third year. VISA warranty would have been great.

2+2 year with Visa card. It basically extends manufacture warranty with the help of Costco concierge services. Allstate warranty is 3 years of accidental protection for 99$. Standard warranty does not include accidents, spills, or even if the hinge breaks within the same year.

Therefore if you bought it with Visa card, you have 4 years of manufacture warranty. If you choose to also buy Allstate, you will have accidental protection within 3 of those years.

Thank you Smilie. This gives me some piece of mind. How come hinge damage not covered by manufacturer warranty within a year. It may be covered if it's defective I think instead of accidental damage

This one is better as far as performance goes. SP7+ Costco deal is great if you like the form factor and don't need to use any high demanding apps

Yes it has a fan but can be adjusted by doing a clean reset. Also if you don't use high demanding apps

ugh same! need a 2in1 factor, haven't had much luck finding anything close... so far front runners are yoga 9i and surface pro 7, but waiting for pricing to come down just a bit more. I thought I found the perfect one in the galaxy flex2 alpha, but it doesn't charge via usb c and that's a total deal breaker Frown

lemme know if you ever find something, I'm sure I'll be interested too!
