Is this Asus more worth it. I like that you can upgrade ram & ssd.
So right now I am on very old Dell with broken screen connected to external monitor and need something new and affordable - after I was done with my kiddo's rig I realized there is not much left for dad...
Yeah man for 800 smackers, the 3050ti one is a good deal too.
I have a desktop without a GPU at the moment and an older laptop ( i7-7700HQ and a 1050ti) that I'm using as my "home" desktop hooked up to two monitors.
I am going to have to take down one of my cheapo mining rigs to get the GPU from it if I want to revive my desktop. But TBH, my older kid in college can use my older laptop and then I can experiment with the new laptop IF it has TB4. He's already getting a new monitor for Christmas though...maybe he'll get a slightly used laptop too.
I already have a laptop from work, but I don't wanna game on that laptop (even though it's a beast for work/light gaming, i9 10th gen + 1650ti).
I only play old games anyway, so I'm not concerned, the 3050 is plenty for my needs on the go, and then I can use the eGPU dock when at home.

Edit: I bought one, worst case I return it. I had a little FOMO from the 3050ti deal , but for $120 less if it has Thunderbolt this is worth it. (The diff between the ti and non-ti is negligible enough) I'll use the 3050 the go and I'll buy an eGPU dock for home.
In some places it says TB, in others it doesn't.
The guy above who bought the 3050ti version clinched it though… that one has TB4. I missed that deal because I hesitated because no one could answer if it had TB4 or not.
I jumped on this one for 120 cheaper than the 3050ti one. I hope this one has TB as well.
All 11th gen i5/i7 have the TB controller But for some reason only like 1/3 of the laptops are equipped with TB.

3050Ti was $799 few hours ago, so it's come and go deal, you better keep an eye and refresh it time to time.
And G15... Duh. Better CPU i7-11800H, better GPU 3060 6GB, smaller screen tho, but comes with 16GB ram installed. Not sure 'bout TB tho, but for $970 it's kind of a good deal nowadays. Tho I am in same boat with you - LITTLE higher than I want to spend.

While it's a good deal, it REALLY sounds like a PITA, TBH. I have good credit but I only rarely buy from dell, I don't know If a hard credit pull is worth it.
Some people have also stacked the Amex cash back and the additional 10% marketing email sign up….
