Pretty much sure you bought FX706HE with 3050Ti (reg $999, was on sale for $799)
This one is FX706HC with 3050 (not Ti version, reg $899, on sale $679)

The title of this deal states 3050 Ti. It should be 3050, not the Ti version.

Edit: OP corrected the title

I'm trying to get the wife a laptop for editing photos, would this be reasonable? Or would it be a grueling process, her current very old laptop makes editing each photo take 10-15 minutes due to being soooo slow when it should take a minute or two.
This should be good for that. Going to Windows 10 will be a big pain. I still use Windows 7 in most of my computers. And you may (will) also want to put in a 1-2 TB SSD if there is room. Since it is a 17" there should be. You want to keep all your data on another drive just in case your boot drive bites the dust. And also back up your data drive often with a portable drive. Also you will want to bump up the memory to 16GB or 32GB if you can afford it.

How is this hands down not the Best 17in laptop deal of the year?? I've read the comments here and am surprised it isnt the Top Deal with more chatter. Is it that Asus' base price (seems) so low for a 17in gaming laptop? Need to know as I'm deciding between this n a used MSI Stealth with comparable specs for $600 (with a >$1200 new price)... Thx!
I would grab this quick. They (BF specials) sold out quick last year. Glad I got mine while they were available. If you feel you want something else, just return this one.

I got a Surface Book 3 with i7 10th gen, 16GB - 15" 4K @ 60Hz & has GTX 1660 Ti for $995.
Is this Asus more worth it. I like that you can upgrade ram & ssd.

Unfortunately I HAVE to buy something new - my desktop died back in March, was hopping market will get back on tracks, but it seems like not and I can not afford desktop I want/need.On top of that I just fried my baby laptop a week ago while moving - stepped on on tool on the floor, felt and drop whole cup of hot coffee right on my laptop. Plugged laptop. Never saw all that flame and sparks shooting from every port and grill before Fully loaded few years old workhorse with 1650Ti, 32GB, two drives etc etc was gone in few sparkly seconds.
So right now I am on very old Dell with broken screen connected to external monitor and need something new and affordable - after I was done with my kiddo's rig I realized there is not much left for dad...

Yeah man for 800 smackers, the 3050ti one is a good deal too.

I have a desktop without a GPU at the moment and an older laptop ( i7-7700HQ and a 1050ti) that I'm using as my "home" desktop hooked up to two monitors.

I am going to have to take down one of my cheapo mining rigs to get the GPU from it if I want to revive my desktop. But TBH, my older kid in college can use my older laptop and then I can experiment with the new laptop IF it has TB4. He's already getting a new monitor for Christmas though...maybe he'll get a slightly used laptop too. Big Grin

I already have a laptop from work, but I don't wanna game on that laptop (even though it's a beast for work/light gaming, i9 10th gen + 1650ti).

I only play old games anyway, so I'm not concerned, the 3050 is plenty for my needs on the go, and then I can use the eGPU dock when at home.

This should be plenty. Just look at the processor stats [intel.com]: 6 cores, 4.40 GHz. This is a very nice 11th gen processor with above average graphics capability. Any of the Intel mobile processors with H on the processor suffix are designed for mobile performance.

As a rig - yes, it's power enough to do any photo editing and even video editing at 4K, tho you may have drop frames on live preview (easy to solve, reduce preview quality a half). BUT only with external monitor with at least 99% sRGB 'cos this 17" looks nice but color gamut as shitty as you can get. Well, lil' bit better than that but still. You will not gonna get any correct colors, my wild guess even after calibration which I am about to do in a day or two with spyderx pro.

Dang. Can anyone confirm if this has Thunderbolt? With the other version of this with the 3050ti there was conflicting information, same with this one.

Edit: I bought one, worst case I return it. I had a little FOMO from the 3050ti deal , but for $120 less if it has Thunderbolt this is worth it. (The diff between the ti and non-ti is negligible enough) I'll use the 3050 the go and I'll buy an eGPU dock for home.
I believe it should have a Thunderbolt 4 port. If you check the Asus site, it says "Thunderbolt 4 not supported on FX706HCB/HEB." This is an HC, not a HCB. Looks like HCB is more for the international market, yet when I look them up for sale they say they have it. Odd. I'm sure all these 11th gen systems have thunderbolt 4 since it's integrated into the processor. Wouldn't make sense for the motherboard not to have it. If I had to guess, I'd say they were previously selling this TUF Gaming F7 line with 10th gen processors, and some of those models didn't have the Thunderbolt.

I mainly play fortnite on my hp with 1650. Is it worth to upgrade to this one and sell the hp for maybe 400 or you think this is overkill for fortnite? The hp plays fortnite ok but the battery drains fast also without external power the hp cannot run fortnite smoothly

Yeah, that was exactly the conflicting information I found regarding the 3050ti version.

In some places it says TB, in others it doesn't.

The guy above who bought the 3050ti version clinched it though… that one has TB4. I missed that deal because I hesitated because no one could answer if it had TB4 or not.

I jumped on this one for 120 cheaper than the 3050ti one. I hope this one has TB as well.

All 11th gen i5/i7 have the TB controller But for some reason only like 1/3 of the laptops are equipped with TB.

Yep. Finally got all components to upgrade and open this bad boy
It's a sticker on exact my unit. I was keeping in mind our previous conversation in other thread and made a pic right away.
3050Ti was $799 few hours ago, so it's come and go deal, you better keep an eye and refresh it time to time.
And G15... Duh. Better CPU i7-11800H, better GPU 3060 6GB, smaller screen tho, but comes with 16GB ram installed. Not sure 'bout TB tho, but for $970 it's kind of a good deal nowadays. Tho I am in same boat with you - LITTLE higher than I want to spend.
Where is the G15 deal for $970? I'm having a really hard time finding it (Can't find it on SD or Dell's site). Do you have a link? Sorry for not being able to find it...

Ha. My older son got my GPU out of my desktop for Christmas or his birthday last year. (I don't remember which one) 'Twas a good gift even if it was an older used GPU considering the GPU market right now. And it forced me to use my laptop as my desktop, sooooooo….

Dad gets the higher performance laptop this time 😂

Search for G15.

The deal is 1100 - 10% if you do dell financing + whatever assorted cash back you can find….

While it's a good deal, it REALLY sounds like a PITA, TBH. I have good credit but I only rarely buy from dell, I don't know If a hard credit pull is worth it.

Some people have also stacked the Amex cash back and the additional 10% marketing email sign up….

Considering gaming laptop for my son who currently plays Xbox games like madden nba2k rocketleague and recently rust. Do newer gaming laptops like this overheat(assuming playing on a table/desk vs bed/carpet)? Or is it more of an issue with external monitor at higher resolution?
