The technology has been out for years and even though it provides better picture/sound quality over streaming, it's not very popular.... by now, it should be priced at 20% over 1080p Blu-ray players.

It has DV and HDR10, it's just missing the HDR10+. To get that would be muchas mas dinero, so I think I'll now take the dive.
Well it would only be another $150, with the Panasonic 820( when on sale).
Not only do you get HDR10+ but better HDR processing, even better upscaling & more intuitive adjustment settings.

Yes, that is the one I really want. I've spent way too much time down the rabbit hole researching the stuff, and have gone back-and-forth.
You said that it's only $150 more while on sale? You've seen a sale price for the 820 at 300 bucks? If you're positive about that, I will wait. But let me know if you are positive, please, as well as any more details you might have. Champagne tastes on a beer budget describes me. ty
Yeah I was guessing that but saw that arcana needs/prefers hdmi 2.1 but I think this one doesn't have that so wondering how good it will work with arcana and Bose soundbar in terms of atmos

Couldn't find the $300 one, this is the only one I found for $350 sorry.

To be honest in my personal experience I'm not sure the 820 is worth it over the 420 for just Dolby Vision.
The 420 was just on sale for $150 and has gotten down to $130 in the past!
I know, I know, UHD discs have way more quality than streaming...
don't matter to me, ever since I got a girlfriend I haven't watched more than 14-minutes of any movie.

Yes. A lot of the 4K movies on BD100 discs start freezing about 2/3rds in. I had one and returned it. As a previous owner of this player, an X900H, and the HTZ9F, I can confidently state that Sony doesn't give a rat's ass about customer feedback or fixing their defunct products.
This same player has been down to $50 in the past.
There are many reasons why people don't use 4K players, the cost of them isn't one of the main ones.
Some of biggest is people don't believe the added quality is WORTH it to them and aesthetics/convenience to have it.
The irony which I always find funny is many times these people will pay top dollar/premium for an OLED display just to watch inferior content from streaming!
Paying $10-12 for best quality content isn't worth it but paying several hundred more for a display you won't be taking full advantage does!!! 🤔
Once Redbox jumps on board and carries most new movies in 4k, I think most people will buy one.
I've been using redbox for many years. They've had 4k for years now.

Perhaps you're watching very linear movies? When watching something more nuanced (parasite for example), watching it again helps you see things you've missed on first watch. There's a ton of good movies like this out there. Maybe you're missing out? Either that or you simply like linear movies. If so, then yes, anyone above 4 years old wouldn't want to watch those more than once.
