The fact she falls asleep 14 minutes into the movie should tell you something,,,
I'm surprised that 4K Blu-ray players prices are not much lower. (It's not as if they have recording capabilities.)

The technology has been out for years and even though it provides better picture/sound quality over streaming, it's not very popular.... by now, it should be priced at 20% over 1080p Blu-ray players.
Not even remotely true. Put a deal alert on 4k Blu ray and watch for sales, you can get tons of good stuff for $10 or under

It has DV and HDR10, it's just missing the HDR10+. To get that would be muchas mas dinero, so I think I'll now take the dive.

Well it would only be another $150, with the Panasonic 820( when on sale).

Not only do you get HDR10+ but better HDR processing, even better upscaling & more intuitive adjustment settings.

Yes, that is the one I really want. I've spent way too much time down the rabbit hole researching the stuff, and have gone back-and-forth.

You said that it's only $150 more while on sale? You've seen a sale price for the 820 at 300 bucks? If you're positive about that, I will wait. But let me know if you are positive, please, as well as any more details you might have. Champagne tastes on a beer budget describes me. ty

Anyone having it knows if the audio hdmi out are eARC capable? As it says it support Dolby atmos. Wondering if I can take that audio out to Sonos Arc or Bose 900 soundbar?
You'll need an HDFury arcana to do what you want.

Yeah I was guessing that but saw that arcana needs/prefers hdmi 2.1 but I think this one doesn't have that so wondering how good it will work with arcana and Bose soundbar in terms of atmos

I bought one of these awhile back and hardly use it anymore. The picture quality is amazing but the convenience of streaming outweighs watching on a 4K player. I wish the video and audio quality while streaming was as good as this 4K player. Good deal though!

Couldn't find the $300 one, this is the only one I found for $350 sorry.

To be honest in my personal experience I'm not sure the 820 is worth it over the 420 for just Dolby Vision.

The 420 was just on sale for $150 and has gotten down to $130 in the past!

Who buys movies anymore ???

I know, I know, UHD discs have way more quality than streaming...

don't matter to me, ever since I got a girlfriend I haven't watched more than 14-minutes of any movie.
Comment made my day...priorities are in the right place!Applause

Isn't this one bad with tons of skipping issues reported by a lot of people? Waiting for the Panasonic 420 to go back on sale.

Yes. A lot of the 4K movies on BD100 discs start freezing about 2/3rds in. I had one and returned it. As a previous owner of this player, an X900H, and the HTZ9F, I can confidently state that Sony doesn't give a rat's ass about customer feedback or fixing their defunct products.

Well you can get a 4K player for under $100, the LG was recently posted for $90.
This same player has been down to $50 in the past.

There are many reasons why people don't use 4K players, the cost of them isn't one of the main ones.

Some of biggest is people don't believe the added quality is WORTH it to them and aesthetics/convenience to have it.

The irony which I always find funny is many times these people will pay top dollar/premium for an OLED display just to watch inferior content from streaming!

Paying $10-12 for best quality content isn't worth it but paying several hundred more for a display you won't be taking full advantage does!!! 🤔
Agreed. I am a member of an HT group and still see lots of posts from people who have spent thousands between a nice OLED set and Audio and then wonder why their AV experience is so disappointing when they stream everything.

After having owned 6 different Sony Blu-Ray players over the last 7 years I agree. Every single one has had disc read issues/freezing of some form or another. It's pretty clear to me that Sony has a real problem with quality control on it's players and they refuse to address it.

I have this Blu-Ray player and just wanted to add that I also experience random freezing, even if it's just a DVD. It freezes to the point that I have to pull out the power cord from the back of it and restart. It's a pain but I didn't want to spend a lot on this since I don't use it that often.

I must have gotten lucky with mine as I haven't experienced any freezing or other bad behaviors, just a nice crisp picture and sound.

I'm usually on top of the ball when it comes to tech (I bought my first flat screen in 2005) and a PS3 at launch for blu ray, but the main reason I haven't gotten a 4k player yet is because the only way I can watch a 4k dvd is to buy it.
Once Redbox jumps on board and carries most new movies in 4k, I think most people will buy one.

I've been using redbox for many years. They've had 4k for years now.

I really don't understand how people over the age of 4 can watch movies multiple times. Maybe I have super-human memory but once I've watched a movie, that's me done with it for at least 5 years.

Perhaps you're watching very linear movies? When watching something more nuanced (parasite for example), watching it again helps you see things you've missed on first watch. There's a ton of good movies like this out there. Maybe you're missing out? Either that or you simply like linear movies. If so, then yes, anyone above 4 years old wouldn't want to watch those more than once.
