You would need a box for it and an amplifier minimum. You may need either a head unit or an adapter to use it with your OEM unit. Depending on your needs, this method may not be for you. One or two 12s would absolutely slam, but a self contained 8" or maybe 10" setup would still sound great. What kind of vehicle and music you running?

Yes, lots of folks are running MANY multiples of these in their theaters. And of course, they are the go to at this price for BOSS or HoverBOSS setups.

Home speakers are typically 8 Ohm. So it depends on the amplifier you're using or planning on using. For home theater I would try to spend more than $30 on a sub.

I'm from the old school car audio days in the late 80's/early 90's but have gotten really old. Currently run a single 10 these days but picked up a Scosche 12" box (1.25 sealed) for $13.00 about a year ago just in case I ran across a good deal on a decent 12" sub. Been out of the game for a long time so I'm wondering if this JBL would sound decent in a 1.25 sealed box? Will be driving it with an old Hott-setup/Orion 2.125 which kicks out around 500 watts bridged. Also could run it with an old Rockford Punch 150.

This is most often used in a car. You could use it in a home. Yes, it requires a box. The key is matching the right amp. Most home amps are rated at twice the resistance and would blow this easily. Personally, I have always preferred 10 to 12. 10 takes less airspace (you need to start doing a lot of study on airspace. You starve this for air and you are not going to like the sound.), is more precise than a 12 and delivers plenty of low end. As with everything though, that is a sliding scale and depends on both the quality of sub and entire setup.
If I combine two of this can I still use with home amp?

Small correction on which part will break here: a home amplifier rated at 8 ohms would actually have more trouble even driving the 4 ohm load unless it is a high-class amplifier so you may actually blow your amplifier rather than your speaker without two of these being wired as an 8ohm load. (this is rated at 250 RMS with an insane max, that would mean in an 8 ohm home theater amp would need to be rated above ~150WPC* to reasonably supply a consistent 250w @4ohm let alone hitting he 1000 max rating which is unlikely for people to have who are even considering a 30 dollar woofer.)

*Don't know why it is but amps that support both 8 and 4 ohm loads never have doubled four loads, I'd guess it's not truly linear...

Did he use all subs in his HoverBOSS setup? The thread sounds a bit confusing

The most important question. Which one's better the JBL or the Kenwood on sale

[QUOTE=ChiragC;151182646 i'm guessing $29.99 isn't going to be the only thing i'm spending to complete this setup?[/QUOTE]

Sure it is!

(As long as you already have an amplifier powerful enough to pump closer to 250w RMS...ie. continuous power, not peak power...and also have the super thick power cable running from the battery to the amp...and good speaker wire.... and an enclosure for the sub... etc)

That being said, this is a garbage sub, if you want amazing bass. It's a single coil vs a dual coil...which also limits your wiring options for power output (think ohms)... and it's only 250W (RMS).

You can easily get a QUALITY dual voice coil, 500-800W RMS sub for $100. Your ears and jiggling body will thank you.

Especially since the sub is the cheap part of the setup. An amp is way more expensive.

That's because the rail voltage would sag with a higher load. Unless the rail voltage is regulated, no Amp will double the power. And in the case of receivers with 8 or 4 ohm switch the rail voltage is actually reduced to prevent overheating. Oftentimes it is reduced so much that it's recommended to just leave it at the 8 ohm setting and watch the temperature.

As long as the power from the personus is not more than the rated watts of the JBL it should work just fine.

JBL is rated 250 watts RMS.
No. They will also need to look at the resistance of the existing driver. As another consideration, your screw holes may not align right out of the box but that's nothing a drill can't handle.

DVC is overrated. I prefer SVC.

Yes, if you wire them in series then the resistance will be 8ohms. The problem with that approach is that the individual power requirements for both speakers still remain. With an inadequately powered amplifier and/or speaker wires that are too thin the Best case scenario is that it works but sounds muffled and has lower relative volume than the rest of your stereo system. Worst case is you damage your amplifier. 📻🔊🔇🙊

A quick Google search found this site of your average audiophile who does a pretty good job of explaining common wiring configurations.

Bought the Kenwood sub and Kenwood front and rear door speakers all for under $100.
Should be better than stock with amp for speakers and another amp for sub.
