You should get a NVMe SSD, not a SATA one.

I have an 8GB DDR4 2666 stick and a 256GB m.2 NMVE SSD lying around that should fit into this laptop I think.
This is fully upgradable. Per HP
https://www.crucial.com/compatibl...4-dq2031tg
" PCIe NVMe Gen 4" So this is the latest and greatest Thouugh Gen 3 NVMe should work or SATA 3.
"DDR4-2666 SODIMM"

This is a great deal especially if you upgrade the DDR and M.2 most likely you can also upgrade the WiFi/Bluetooth as well.

Discover now has a 5% cashback for Target.com. Should knock off another $15.

My son is home from college and his laptop died on him. He has 3 papers to write before he goes back. Found this before it was actually posted here, and picked it up earlier today.

Very happy with it, and a perfect price point for a laptop I did not know I needed.

I'm sure it will fit, but I am skeptical it'll work at gen4 speeds. I assume it will most likely fallback on gen3.

Do you care about the GPU? The i5 has 80 EUs and the i3 only 48. And the Lenovo has a touchscreen, if you care about that sort of thing. You can upgrade the RAM and storage to match the HP with the Lenovo, but those two things can't be changed.
I don't care about the touch screen. Don't even know the difference between the GPU. I just do basic stuff, surf the web, watch movies, email, office, etc. No gaming.

If I put on 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, it would be a lot cheaper than the Lenovo. Would it be worth it?

total cost of upgrading ram (say to 8gb or even 16gb), would still make this a deal?

Thumbs up from me. Placed an order hour ago. I happen to have 4gb stick around and I think I am going to switch 256GB boot drive we have in a desktop that we barely use.

Target is better if you plan upgrading ram and SSD. Ram and SSD are so cheap.
Target laptop CPU is i3-1125 (quad core) , BB has 1115 (which is 2 core).

Just the RAM: Yes (assuming the empty slot is easily accessible). If both the RAM and the SSD, I'd rather look/wait for deal on a preconfigured i3-1125G4/8GB/256GB laptop. The lowest prices on those have been $340 and $350 so far.
