It's amazing in that each button is programmed separately directly from another remote. You can use 1 button for tv power, 1 button for sound bar, volume buttons for sound bar, channel buttons for cable box etc. You could program one to an old fan that has a remote or a window A/C unit. Literally each button can do anything that another (IR) remote can do.
How would I use this with my Chromecast remote? It seems like most of the buttons are redundant. What would be some applications for A and B buttons? Is this thing intended to control a third device like a DVD?
Had one for an older Roku that didn't have the power and volume buttons and it was useful.

So do we need a functioning remote to program this? I don't have a functioning remote for an old receiver that I plan to use the sidekick for and am wondering if I can get the sidekick to work with the receiver without the original remote functioning. Tia!

If this works out for me I'm going to double down and attach a Tile Slim on the back and it will be my uber rig. Full buttons, can find remote.

I think the size will be right for a Tile slim on back, but don't know yet.

I do not like the Tile company except for the slim. If you want your Tile tag to alert you forget your wallet/backpack/etc and walk out of bluetooth range Tile requires a monthly subscription for that feature. Monsters!. Samsung and others do not have subscription fees for basic features. Tile is bullying it's customers with ultimatums, IMO. What kind of idiot pays subscription fees on a piece of plastic and electronics that weighs a few grams.

The tile slim, which fits in your wallet better than the rest, is the only thing Tile has to offer above others. All other offerings by Tile are substandard to competitors, and the biggies like apple, Samsung. Then they have the audacity to employ a subscription system.

Apple TV already controls the TV, adjusts HDMI input, so the only benefit that I can think of is the mute button. But if that's all, then it's an expensive purchase!

Which Apple TV remote controls the HDMI input? Unless I've missed something over the past several years, the black remote doesn't change inputs. Maybe the new silver remote with Apple TV 4K?

How bout a sideclick with an actual keyboard. Typing in all that crap without a keyboard gets to be a pain.

I don't know what technology enables this ... but the black glossy remote definitely changes HDMI input. The one on Apple TV HD as well

I don't think a slim will work underneath. It's too curved and there's not a good spot for the slim to stick flat to it.

The pics on the Shield remote page look like they fit the older remote model, not the newer triangular prism "Toblerone" design.

Yeah, doesn't look like they have one for the newer gen. Sucks but I'm still in for a Roku one. I was really looking forward to this because the receiver my shield knows it's received a CEC signal but doesn't want to turn on automatically.

Firestick max remote can turn your tv on/off and adjust soundbar volume. What would you need this for?
I use it to change some settings on my receiver (switching to 5 channel stereo or Dolby surround, turning on night mode), turning my fan on/off, and accessing my TV menu to change some specific settings. Now instead of having 4 or 5 remotes sitting on my coffee table I only need one most of the time. Each button can be programed to any function on ANY remote, so think outside the box a little.

You need a remote to program the buttons on this remote. If you lost your original remote you could buy a cheap universal remote that accepts codes, program that for your receiver, then use it to program the Sideclick.

It's an independent remote so yes it'll work on it's own. The only difference between the versions is the bracket that attaches it to another remote (although the Chromecast version is a different design and color).
