There's comments like this in every MacBook Air M1 thread, but have no clue what they're talking about. Look into how this thing actually performs instead of thinking it's the same as the Intel chipsets with 8gb of ram.

A year old laptop that is going to run circles around any other comparably priced laptop.

Costco has two years warranty, so that's a plus

I'd made the same comment a couple years back, but Apple and the M1 is shaking up the normalcy of hardware spec that the Windows kernel (among other factors) got us so used to. jus throwing more ram at wasteful or lacking efficiency app and resource management can only take us so far. Thank you apple for pushing this envelope and thus forcing other companies to follow suit or fall the the wayside.

Apples and Oranges.. no pun intended.
This is pure BS from someone drunk on Apple's cool-aid. My household has two M1 Macbook pros with 8gb of RAM and both of them get bogged down when you have a ton of tabs and windows open. My 2015 i7 Macbook pro with 16gb of RAM has no problem dealing with at least twice the amount of tabs (yes, I tested it out of curiosity.) 16gb of RAM is still the absolute minimum for modern multitasking regardless of what your fruit overlords and their peons tell you. And yes, I'm bitter, because I believed that same hype and ended up with two 2020 laptops that at times perform like something from 2010.

Anyone know if next MB Air will have ports again (i.e. usb, sd card, hdmi, etc)?

I have a mid-2014 MB Pro 15". Works fine, but battery life is down to <2 hrs now. Figured this is a decent deal to upgrade to + decent resale value on my current Mac. At the same time, the ports on my current Mac are SUPER convenient. Considering waiting if upcoming Airs will have the old ports. I know the new Pros have them, but I don't need Pro level performance anymore.

Any input appreciated.

Personally going from a 15" to 13" would be a huge downgrade for me if it was my only laptop. I don't know what your financial situation is like, but I'm pretty positive that the new MB Air won't be $800 for really long time, if ever. If saving a few hundred is the priority then get this deal, otherwise I'd wait and see what will come out in 2022. I'm pretty sure there will be more similar deals for the M1 MB pros and Airs in the future so this won't be your last opportunity to get either. I'd also look for deals on the outgoing 16" models. No ports or M1, but still great machines. I may get one myself because that notch is pure vomit.

A developer here with m1 mba 8gb unified memory.
Those of you waiting for deals on 16gb models - Apple doesn't sell them in store, nor can you buy one in Best Buy or other store. 16gb IS A CUSTOM ORDER MBA. If stores like B&H would be selling them with discount, that would be their inventory of custom ordered MBAs.

To those, who doesn't understand unified memory - I had an XPS with I-9750 and 32Gb of ram before. MBA performance is more seamless.
I run a server, containerization system, 3 browsers with 100+ tabs, slack, zoom, Spotify, dozen other apps, and figma with 12Gb design files. I don't feel any slug (sometimes when I add double the tabs, it can happen, closing an unused browser stops the issue) but my swap is at 8-10 Gb. Ideally I would get 16gb but when I was ordering it after it came out, wait time was 45+ days.
This thing is a beast, compared to my xps 15 w/ i7.
I love Macbooks but ive never heard of someone in my life running 300 tabs

Hilarious exaggeration thanks for the laughs

I'm going to give my educated guess and say no it will not. Big differentiator for the air and pro series now. Apple likes that kinda stuff.

do NOT get a 16" Intel Macbook Pro

unless you want to cook bacon and eggs on it after opening a few tabs in Chrome

The monthly December ad must have a misprint because it shows $100 off instead of $150 from the op link.

2019 MBP 16" with i9 Intel processor/64GB memory/1TB SSD.

Overheats like crazy to the point of randomly shutting down sometimes.
Watching Youtube at 720p for too long causes CPU throttling due to overheating and becomes unusable. No idea if it's just my system, but I would absolutely avoid 2019 MBPs.

Upgrading to Monterey helped massively; I can watch Youtube now but randomly powers off more frequently. I've been using Apple laptops from 2000 (Powerbooks) and this is by far the worst Mac I've ever had - it's not even close.

More than likely they make you return and rebuy. But you'd prob have better luck of an exclusion if you go in person to a store.
Give the price match a go. Google Costco price adjustment or go to Contact Us on the Costco website to ask them.

Exaggerate much? Here's something that's not an exaggeration: I can't use my professional Canon photo printer with the M1 MBP because the drivers are incompatible. Some of us do more than just browse the web. If I saw a 16" MBP on sale for $1400 I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat.
