Apples and Oranges.. no pun intended.
I have a mid-2014 MB Pro 15". Works fine, but battery life is down to <2 hrs now. Figured this is a decent deal to upgrade to + decent resale value on my current Mac. At the same time, the ports on my current Mac are SUPER convenient. Considering waiting if upcoming Airs will have the old ports. I know the new Pros have them, but I don't need Pro level performance anymore.
Any input appreciated.

Those of you waiting for deals on 16gb models - Apple doesn't sell them in store, nor can you buy one in Best Buy or other store. 16gb IS A CUSTOM ORDER MBA. If stores like B&H would be selling them with discount, that would be their inventory of custom ordered MBAs.
To those, who doesn't understand unified memory - I had an XPS with I-9750 and 32Gb of ram before. MBA performance is more seamless.
I run a server, containerization system, 3 browsers with 100+ tabs, slack, zoom, Spotify, dozen other apps, and figma with 12Gb design files. I don't feel any slug (sometimes when I add double the tabs, it can happen, closing an unused browser stops the issue) but my swap is at 8-10 Gb. Ideally I would get 16gb but when I was ordering it after it came out, wait time was 45+ days.
This thing is a beast, compared to my xps 15 w/ i7.
Hilarious exaggeration thanks for the laughs

Overheats like crazy to the point of randomly shutting down sometimes.
Watching Youtube at 720p for too long causes CPU throttling due to overheating and becomes unusable. No idea if it's just my system, but I would absolutely avoid 2019 MBPs.
Upgrading to Monterey helped massively; I can watch Youtube now but randomly powers off more frequently. I've been using Apple laptops from 2000 (Powerbooks) and this is by far the worst Mac I've ever had - it's not even close.
