I wouldn't touch a Surface Pro until they've fixed the swollen battery issue.

SSD - Yes, fairly easily, dedicated SSD enclosure at the back side of the tablet.
RAM - Probably not

MacBook Air unless you really need a do it all note taking device.

How does this compare to the best buy surface pro 7 deals (especially the 16gb version)? Is the 7 plus worth it over 16gb on the 7?
It doesn't Best Buy's previous gen models have a 2 year old processor in it.

Is the surface pro 8 costco deal worth the $400 price increase? https://www.costco.com/new-micros...03898.html
I'm not seeing it - cheaper build materials, fan, and less than an inch more screen real estate is not worth $400. You're paying a premium for the newer design with cheaper build quality and a newer pen/keyboard. Internals are the same. Meh.

It comes with the 4 year Costco credit card warranty that's the only reason I would touch any Windows PC. The customer support for windows laptops is trash across the board.

No, I got a SP8 directly from MS when it was released, I sent it back within a week. They made it out of aluminum instead of magnesium. The SP8 is 5 ounces heavier than the SP7+, which may not sound like much, but over a quarter pound difference makes it unusable as a tablet. The SP7+ for $799 has the same processor, replaceable SSD, and the same size battery with a slightly smaller screen.

EDIT: Also, this deal went live Saturday morning, I bought it then. No telling how long this will last.
I would argue for the SP8 is very good, the extra screen real estate looks great, using it as a tablet has been good (I think it compares to the 12.9 iPad Pro) and the more firm keyboard is a plus.
Even though I don't use it yet but I think some people want Thunderbolt for eGPU use

With that being said $799 SP7+ is great value especially since this comes with an upgraded 11th Gen CPU

Oh, just a question for you dougpaw since you owned both SP8 and SP7+.. How's SP7+ power-on/wake? Would you say it is EVO-like quality with Windows Hello?

If you want the faster computer go for the Macbook Air.
If you want more functional usage: drawing, note taking, light 1080p PC Gaming, tablet mode, etc.

Is it still an issue with the Surface Pro 8?
I don't know. I've read reports that it's been an issue with pretty much every previous version, some worse than others. And since Microsoft apparently won't acknowledge the issue, it seems highly unlikely they'll give any indication that they've fixed it.

Perhaps a site that does teardowns will at least speculate that it's been addressed based on observed design changes.

In the meantime, it seems user reports (or lack thereof) are the only way to assess.

I have been looking for a replacement for my broken sp4. Tried sp7, the silly fanless design will slow down a lot. I returned it. Then was thinking this bundle, maybe the 11th i5 will work better. But I ended to get Dell XPS 13 2 in 1.
For those who like sp, this is a good deal. Easily update to larger ssd with less than $100.

Does anyone know if the Surface Pro 7+ have the same can't wake from sleep issue that the Surface Pro 7 had?

Bought 2 of them to replace 2 of my ancient SP2 that are still chugging along but have no battery left. I finally convinced the wife that the LxW dimensions on the SP7 are not much bigger than the old SP2 and is way thinner and lighter. They both get used as tablets so size was a factor. Going to have to upgrade the to the Pro version of windows but still after 9 years it's time to replace them.

Still have 2 other SP2 sitting in docking stations that will probably stick around.
