If its the same item just buy another one and return one with the more expensive receipt.

I would definitely get this one for the price over the II. The hinge is nice, but on the classic isn't as big of a deal as it is on the Big Joe. The mesh gasket might last longer, but functionally isn't going to make much difference, and you can always swap to a mesh gasket when the regular gasket is worn (some other companies sell them cheaper than the KJ one too). The top vent cap isn't really much of an upgrade, and you can always get a Smokeware one instead if you wanted for not too much. So overall the upgrades with the II are kind of nice, but sort of marginal and not that big of a deal. IMO I'd save the money and get this for this price for sure.
totall agreed. Dome on the classic isn't that heavy. You could get a Jotesserie for 170 from AGC, two half moon soapstone for 82 dollars each (or 84 on amazon) from Kamado Joe holiday sale, get some heat resistance gloves for 20 dollars, and still be 100ish ahead of the best price for Classic II at 1099 from AGC that includes a free Joetesserie.

Have a pit poss lexington, do i need this? Just heard so many good things on the Internet, is kamado Joe just so much better?
"Need"? No. However, the cooking on a Kamado is light years better than on a pellet.

I'm assuming this doesn't come with a cover-- Anyone have any recommendations or do most people go without one?
check if a lowes store around you still has the cover for the classic on sale for 20 dollars. I left my jr out most of the time. It's made mostly plastic, ceramic and stainless steel, the chance of the rusting is pretty small.

Was able to get lowes to price match the kamado, and they will assemble it for free. Don't really trust Walmart, especially with this item.

What's the soapstone used for? Never dug into it honestly

Used similarly to cast iron. Easier to clean and overall better cooking surface than CI. But fragile and can crack just from normal use - I've had that happen on first use twice.

I have an Akorn. Would the upgrade to a Kamado Joe be worth it?
I think so. I have an acorn and love it but its finally rusitng out. Bought a joe jr and I know it will perform even better. I got my acorn for 78 bucks new on jet.com so the years it gave me were well worth it.

Well damn merry Xmas to me. Just purchased the Jr last week but it arrived with a cracked dome so Walmart gave me a full refund, hopefully this shipment is better.

Cooking experience or the taste and flavor? Is it because KJ can maintain high temp?

It's gimmick. Most if not all their accessories are just gimmick. The best accessory to charcoal grill is cast iron stuff such as Dutch oven, pizza pan and griddle.

Did you order online or in store? Where do they offer free assembly?

ALso, did you do pickup or get it delivered? Looks like pickup is the only option for me. I can pay $60 to have it delivered but they won't assemble it at that point (the option goes away)

I have acron jr for a few years, no rusting, did you put cover on it?
water won't leak into the dome but will drip to the dust pan.
I have it under the same cover together with gas grill, it's still going fine.
Love it, a bit small, but great can still do grill/roast/etc outdoor in winter

Agree as well, got this from Walmart 2 years ago for $600, at this price it's a no brainer. My felt gasket bit the dust at about 18 months and I've been too lazy to replace, still works fine for me.
