While absolutely correct MOST of the time, there are exceptions. I guess it depends how you define "desktop". It seems especially likely you are correct since you were replying to a post that mentioned "tower".

However, most, if not all, mini-itx desktop motherboards use SODIMMS (this form factor). Additionally, every "mini" or "micro" PC I am aware of use this type of RAM. Think Intel NUC, Gigabyte BRIX, Asrock DeskMini, Lenovo Mxx Tiny series, etc. Not traditional "desktops" per se, but definitely not laptops...
I bought this ram kit for $95 during the sale at Newegg a few weeks ago. I installed it in a Ryzen laptop (Dell G5) and it immediately recognized the RAM as dual-channel, 3200 MT/s, and with the expected and advertised timings (22-22-22-52) with a 1.2V voltage. Considering some of the previous posters' questions about secondary timings, rank, and device width, I post the following data from HWiNFO with the hope that it can help someone for this information was also unknown to me prior to purchase:

Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC):560T
Number Of Ranks:1
Number Of Bank Groups:4
Device Width:8 bits

Please note that my previous ram was also CL22; however, all G.Skill F4-3200C22D-32GRS timings are either the same or better than the stock ram. I am pleased with this purchase and feel it is a slick deal.

No you can't. Laptop RAM sticks are fatter and shorter.
These won't fit desktop notherboards

Not familiar with the term 'laptop memory'-- can this be used with a desktop tower?
Probably not. It depends on the details of the motherboard inside the tower. Most "tower" computers use DIMM form factor RAM rather than the SODIMM form factor in this deal.

There are actually a couple of things you would need to know about the computer you want to put RAM in. Form factor i.e. DIMM or SODIMM. Data Rate i.e. DDR3, DDR4 etc. ECC? Buffered or unbuffered, registered?

ECC is pretty rare in consumer grade PC's, but common in Dell business grade workstations.

If the tower you are asking about is a fairly recent typical consumer grade PC, it would be reasonable to guess that it requires Non-ECC DDR4 DIMMs. You should be able to look this up at the PC manufacturers support page for that particular PC, or even the manual - if you have it.

I was trying to find a good ram for my L5P but don't know much about the speeds and voltage and what's good for the L5P. Would you recommend these?
The best memory I found for laptops was Kingdton Hyper-X Impact. Those are now rebranded to Kingston Fury Impact. These G-Skill are really good as well. I would also recommend the Corsair Vengeance. Are yiu running AMD or Intel?

The reason I did the HyperX is because they're also DDR4 3200mhz but are Cl20 with 20-22-22 timings.

As for what someone else asked, these are 260 pin so-dimms, so find out what your system requires. They call these laptop memory because the smaller pin size versus desktop 288 pin style makes them more suited for only laptops, or possibly those tiny mini pc type things.

With DDR4 for laptops, this is pretty much as good as it gets for speed, latency and timings.

If you need only one. https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16...lsrc=aw.ds [newegg.com]
would there be issues if you buy two of these separately? seems cheaper? or will it affect dual channel?

Do you think in real life a better latency is noticeable?

So, why are people now concerned about the CAS Latency of 22 ?

Make sure that your laptop can actually run XMP. If it can't, it will just run at 2666mhz

This is incorrect. Many comments on Newegg and others say that this follows the standard JEDEC 3200 mhz speed, and does not require XMP support to run at 3200mhz at 1.20v. However if you were looking to increase the voltage, that would require a motherboard that supports XMP (Intel laptops usually).

The main thing you want to look for whether it's 1Rx8 or 1Rx16 (x8 being the preferable number as it has a higher bandwidth) and that unfortunately, I haven't found much info on.

Edit: Looking at some photos on Amazon/Newegg, I see there are chips on only 1 side of the module which says to me that the ram is 1Rx16, but I could be wrong.
