This AMD is a 2021 chip and very modern. Find the specific i5 you want to compare, and do a AMD R5-5500U vs i5-XXXXX comparison search and check results.
If this HP had an ISP screen and backlit kb, it would be a better deal.
From the HP Support site:
8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 4 GB)
15.6" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC
Realtek RTL8821CE-M 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo
1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate; 2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate; 1 HDMI 1.4b; 1 AC smart pin; 1 headphone/microphone combo
3-cell, 41 Wh Li-ion
So I don't think it can charge via USB-C, but it would be an added bonus. Screen should be adequate enough.
For 399, can't really get better than this!
Everything else you can upgrade, RAM 2x slots, NVME drive, WiFi card, and the 5500U should make it plenty fast while sipping battery.
Sure small compromise on the screen, but for the price, I don't see any other 5500Us

The intel 10th gen true 10nm is better. This is a fake 5000 series chip based on Zen 2 rather than Zen 3 of the true 5600 and up chips. Those have much better performance and battery life. This is more a Ryzen 4500u.
