Just throwing this out there... bought this same deal last year for $379... and it made me leave Dewalt for good.

I had owned a DWS779 for many years, and it was an amazing SCMS. And last year when I seen the sale, I jumped on it.

Little did I know how much Dewalt had cheapened the saw from the 779 of the past. Many of the aspects that made it a "DWS780 Without the Light" were gone. So many things that made it great...

(Copy/paste to save time)
1. Saw now only cuts 13.75" wide not 16" as advertised (huge change)
2. Kerf plate is no longer split and cannot be adjusted
3. They removed a few bevel stops.
4. There is no more slide lock lever.
5. The motor itself bogs down quickly compared to the older versions. This is straining the motor, and in turn, shortening it's life span.

They took a once amazing saw that was the best value in SCMS, and turned it into a Yellow Craftsman Sliding Compound Miter Saw.

So be forewarned... this will be more of a DWS778.9. And it is not a very good deal at this price, for this saw.

Look into the Makita and Bosch. I love the Bosch now, and find it better than the DWS780. (I only with the Newer Cordless Bosch had the option of being battery powered, and corded. I'd have bought that one instead if it came with both options.)

This will get down voted but I have TWO of these as well as a comparable Metabo (I run a woodshop) and I would use the Metabo over my 779s every time. I have DeWalt everything in the shop but the 779s are underwhelming IMO.

I too pulled the trigger on this one at Lowe's last year and got the stand included for $399. Great saw and no complaints on performance. This year's price isn't bad as we're seeing the pinch on inflation and supply issues across the board on all black Friday items.

Oh, and this saw is a MONSTER...big and heavy! You are going to want the Dewalt stand or other dedicated table or surface to mount it on. The included stand is very functional and has several adjustments to help hold material in place while you cut. I waited a long time for a well-made miter saw, and this has exceeded expectations by far.

This will get down voted but I have TWO of these as well as a comparable Metabo (I run a woodshop) and I would use the Metabo over my 779s every time. I have DeWalt everything in the shop but the 779s are underwhelming IMO.

If you are tight on space in your garage like I am then get the 716 or 716xps, saw saw just without slider. I looked at the 779 and 780 but they have to sit like 6-8inches away from the wall to give the slider the space it needs.

I hear ya. The only thing that keeps me from purchasing this. I'm contemplating the Bosch glide saw for this reason. It's more expensive ($649) but a beautiful saw and able to get much closer to the wall.

I went to look at this at the store and it is WAY TOO BIG. The sliding design forces you to keep the saw about a foot away from the wall. There are better designs where the sliding pole is in the front instead of the back. I agree that the Metabo might be a more compact option with a laser as an added bonus.

One more thing, the Dewalt seems flimsy and plasticky compared to the Metabo. That was surprising to me.
