TigerDirect has the APC BR1000MS UPC bundled with an APC surge protector for $99.99 with free shipping [tigerdirect.com].

BR1000MS has:
  • 10-Outlets/1000VA/600 Watts
  • Sine Wave Output Voltage Wave Form
  • 4x NEMA 5-15R (Surge Protection)
  • 6x NEMA 5-15R (Battery Backup)
  • 1080 Joules
  • Circuit Breaker
  • 1x 4 USB Type A
  • 1x 24 USB-C

This was previously a FP deal at $110. It appears to be their daily deal for today.

This is a great price for a pure sine wave UPS. The main drawbacks according to reviews are some early failures and some coil whine. APC customer service seems to be pretty good about addressing failed units. The previous deal thread also mentions TigerDirect took a month to ship.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I've never seen an APC on slickdeals that didn't have several pages of people saying it will fry your electronics and shoot your grandma. This seems like a good deal to me with just a basic home office setup, but I look forward to finding out why I was an idiot to buy it.
I got this same deal from Tiger for $99 back in July. Though it took them a month to get it to me. I've been using it since August with no issues or noticable noise.

Damn thing is heavy AF. It's got one hefty battery in it. Amazing they can do free shipping and still profit.
Don't plug laser printers into UPSes.
This will work for the rest of your setup.

All I need is safely shut down basically. I do work on my laptop and desktop is strictly for gaming.

I'd go for a 1000+w, regardless of VA. Your PC may pull 700+w at highest load (the 3090 alone could pull ~400w or more depending on model) and monitor maybe another 100+w.

You may be able to get away with a lower specced model but I'd err on the side of caution. If you;re gaming online, add in another 50+w for the router/modem.

Then this is fine, assuming that you noticed the power went out and stopped gaming (drawing full power) and began saving your work/shutting down.

Yeah... read some horror stories. CyberPower seems to be better and have less horror stories. I've been using CyberPower pure sine wave UPS's for awhile with no major issues.

So is this "safe" to buy? Did they fix the issues with it? Or should I stick to CyberPower?

Anyone? Anyone?

I only play single player not online and my 3090 is evga xc3 which is not one of most power hungry ones. And I do not play daily only when new games come out basically that I like. I did not have a power outage in my place yet (the town has its own power plant) so this is just something to replace my aging cyberpower unit basically which is about 10 years old and did see few power outages before when I had much less spec systems connected to it years ago.

Same here. This one lasts for over an hour on small, but important electronics when the power goes out. I've been wishing I had bought two. Smilie

I fixed the amp watts typo. I should have noticed that in the copy and paste. It only changes my post though. It did not seem to update the deal info the FP post though.
Kudos again for getting it right in the thread. Given how misleading the VA rating can be, having the peak load in wattage listed in the thread title is a critical piece of information.

My other pet peeve these days is missing the CPU model in budget laptop listings.

Good luck!
Jon

I need a UPS for my closet which has my fiber gateaway and a small 5 port network switch. This seems like overkill so I was thinking about the CyberPower ST425 (~$50) which is 425 VA / 260 watts. Seems small enough I might be able to fit it in the network closet but I'm always wondering how much runtime I would get.

Same, I was just able to snag one as well. It originally errored for me at checkout, but worked after trying a couple times.

I was just at Costco and saw this in store. You can avoid the shipping charge that way. Pro: It has higher capacity than the BR1000MS. Con: It's modified sine wave.

This was previously a 5 thumbs up deal at $100 in Oct.
