still milking the same box 😕 where is hl3?
Wow $3.99?! I bought the physical box for this in like 2008 for ~$60. If only I had waited 13 years I could have saved a bunch. 🤣
This includes everything from Valve for $13-15.

I'm going to spend the money now, but don't know when, if ever, I'm going to play. Game insurance, or a waste of money?

Quote from DirkBelig :
Wrong question. The Right Question is where the hell is Half-Life 2: Episode Three?!?!?!??! It's been FOURTEEN F#$%ING YEARS and Gabe Newell, that corpulent barrel of lying manure, has never explained why they broke their promise to deliver a trilogy. Yes, I'm still mad about it. The 15th anniversary of Episode Three being announced (when Episode One went gold) was commemorated earlier this year: https://kotaku.com/15-years-ago-t...1846995929 [kotaku.com]

All the pathetic dweebs with their "Lord GabeN" votive candles who imagine "HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!!!" in the single patterns of their toast refuse to how that lying fat sack of fertilizer accountable for his endless lies and dodges.

Remember that he announced Half-Life 2 in an exclusive PC Gamer cover story in March 2003 based on the premise that they didn't want a Duke Nukem Forever situation - it had been in development hell for six years by that point - where they announced a game and then it took forever to finish. So Fatty Liarson revealed the game with the PROMISE it would release in six months. Because Half-Life was my favorite game ever and I didn't know what a lying garbage person Fatboy Fat was, I built a new PC in August in anticipation of HL2.

It actually came out in November 2004. And I had already upgraded that rig's video card while waiting. How committed to his lie was Tubby McLardo? He booked Alcatraz for the release party and went through with it when he knew the game wasn't going to release in time. They tried to blame it on being hacked and needed to secure the code, but those who saw what was stolen realized the game was in nowhere ready to ship state. It was barely an alpha build.

So yeah, I'm not ever going to forgive that chonky fabulist. Rather than just own it that they had no creativity left and were reduced to buying developers with fresh ideas (e,g, Portal, Left 4 Dead) and making TF2 party hats and running their trading card grift, to this day they hope that we forget their lies. I won't. Ever.
Normally, I'd find a thread hijack annoying, but I'm gonna give this one a pass

I still love jumping on TF2 every now and then. Too bad there's so many bots out there and Valve doesn't seem to care to stop them.
Try the skial servers for bot-free TF2 play.

To anyone reading this, Orange Box contains Portal, which is a fantastic, kid-friendly puzzle game. A true 10/10. You can buy Portal ala carte for $2. Portal 2 the 10/10 sequel is also $2.

Question to all - why is this only on steam and not Switch or Playstation digital?
These game engines are like 20 years old, and written for x86. No doubt they could be recompiled, but the market is probably not that big to be worth the hassle

Factoid - no physical disc version of Orange Box exists. The boxed/disc version just included the Steam client and a steam key for the Orange Box. So that's all you can get on eBay... the box!
Lol, that makes sense. I got the box a few days ago but haven't gotten around to installing the games. Looks like a pair of PC DVD-ROMs, marked like it too, but I just plopped Disc 1 into my PC and looked at the directory....

Setup.exe uses a Steam icon
The installer is SteamInstall.msi

Guess I got suckered in. All because I've never played Portal and thought that this physical copy WAS the game, ported to PC. Oh well, at least I didn't pay $60 thirteen years ago for it. laugh out loud

I get it. I wanted Orange Box before this sale and I went on eBay and almost did what you did until I researched it a little and found out...

This is a great deal as these are some great games. I think I paid $20 for it years ago, but I got a physical edition and I still have the box all these years later

AFAIK, most of the Half-Life/Portal games have been updated to newer versions of source with native X86-64 support, and support for some newer processor extensions.
Anyone more technically knowledgeable on Source/Source 2, please feel free to enlighten me as to the details, or where I'm incorrect.

Yes, these games work on Windows 10. Can confirm.
Windows 11 should be fine too as long as your other system drivers/devices are fully supported by 11.
Even SourceGold engine'd Half-Life 1 and expansions work well on Win10 with newest CPUs.

How is the graphics after these many years?
Mods make the games shine. Thankfully the engine has been multithreaded about a year after release, so modern CPUs do extremely well. Only uses 2 1/2 cores at best, even at insane refresh rates.

The original engine is horribly inefficient. Day of Defeat gets plenty of drops below 60fps with a full server, and this is with a 4Ghz all-core Ryzen 2700, 32GB 3200mhz and a Radeon 590 8GB OC.

I would play it on a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with a Radeon X850 at full 60fps. When they made it all Linux compatible they really messed performance up.

Same here. Lol. Good to be alive... and old. Now it's too dizzy for me to play.
