I actually do both! When I read a book that I really like on KU, I'll wait and give the author time to collect the royalties from that month's check out, and then the next month or so I'll buy their book with my Amazon digital credits. Maximum support.

I read a lot of books through KU. I mean A LOT. This helps me filter through books that look okay on the store page but end up turning out to be garbage without having to make any substantial monetary investment. The books and authors that I DO find I like can then get their KU royalties, and then a little bit later down the line I can further support their work while also getting a copy for myself.

I wish I had started doing this earlier, as I unfortunately found that a several of the indie authors that I really enjoyed reading eventually had their stories pulled from checkout/sale on Amazon after the agreed term expired. In many cases after the author passed away, leaving no legal way to obtain a copy from a retailer. One of the more memorable authors would have been Brent Roth, writer of the dragon's wrath series. https://www.reddit.com/r/litrpg/c..._continue/
He posted regular updates on his website and started putting out chapters for his fourth book in the series. The first chapter was a couple days late, the second chapter was 2 weeks late, and then he was never heard from again. Unfortunately because the author was very private and writing under a pen name, no one ever found out what happened to him. After a while his first and then second books were taken down on the anniversary of the date that they were originally published, likely because he was not present to renew the agreement with Amazon. 😞

Amazon/ku loses a pretty significant amount of money to royalties for the number book that I read on the platform in any given year. 😅

Here is the simple/direct URL to the Amazon KU promotion. I dislike having to login from a long referral link.

⭐ amazon.com/kindleunlimitedgift

Edit: oh, also, be sure to check the rewards/offers on your credit card before you sign up for this. Chase, for example, had a 20% back up to $6 when you activate the offer and buy a Kindle unlimited subscription. $6 is $6. 👍

If you're wondering what resources are available for free, check out the info in my post from another thread for some of the best sources.

If you have Amazon prime only you should also have access to a (much smaller) selection of Kindle books without any additional charge.
For those looking for a 6 month subscription, this deal is even better. Though I can't say for certain if the price is offered to everyone, I'm showing $30.

I have to interject a little common sense here. Authors put their books on K U because they find it financially advantageous and remove them when it isn't.

If someone is looking for a new 6.8" Paperwhile, when browsing them on my Amazon Prime account, I see this offer: "As a Kindle Unlimited member, you get 25% off by choosing 5 monthly payments.' https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1
That would put the PW at $105.

My account is also showing $30 for 6 month of Kindle Unlimited after clicking your link. Also, there is a banner saying 25% off Paperwhite with Kindle Unlimited. I clicked it and it showed $30.99 for total of 5 month of Kindle Unlimited and Paperwhite (after 25% off).

$9.99/month for Kindle Unlimited plus $21/month for Paperwhite for 5 month.

Now, I am wondering, if 25% off Paperwhite from this deal stack with 20% off trade-in code for new Paperwhite?

I never liked Kindle Unlimited. Couldn't find any book that I wanted to read. I won't pay more than $1 per month for it.

Lol. Keep waiting, I'm sure eventually someone from Amazon will take notice and show up at your door to beg you to sign up for $12 a year. 👍

But in all seriousness, there is an enormous number of books you can read in practically every genre. Sci-fi, fantasy and those that blend the two like Litrpg, history, historical fiction, romance novels, magazines, biographies, educational and how to of every variety. If you can't find a book, comic or magazine that you want to read in all that selection, then you probably don't actually want to read a book. 📚

(Maybe maybe you just want to be SEEN reading a book? 🤔)

Either way, good luck.

Are the books under the Unlimited any good? I always have the impression I have no interest whatsoever on what they have on offer.

From my understanding, you can't use Hoopla on e-readers(kindle, paperwhite etc.) I've only used Hoopla for listening to audio books on my phone. I use Overdrive for borrowing
e-books.

The slow shipping credits are great for buying Kindle books. Really wish they would make them valid for audio books too

I don't know, your man has a point. I've bought maybe one Kindle in the last 2 years and have managed to have Kindle unlimited more months than I haven't via the free trials and 99 cent for one to three month deals that come around regularly, I think you guys paying for multiple years are insane but considering it's you guys that allow them the flexibility to give the rest of us free trials I salute you ♥️(In fairness I overpay for streaming services and internet access to most people so it's totally a different strokes for different folks situation...)
