youtube tv app officially in roku store again so those people who spend nauseating amount of time telling people not to get roku because of no youtube tv app cans top now. lol.

I may just keep going to it through the regular youtube app, though, where I don't have it use up more space with another app as I am using roku 3 and out of space.

I got an apple tv for under $100 (new model, not old one), but I hate to stop using roku 3 because it sitll works quite well. lol. Maybe I should sell the apple tv.

Instead of paying a monthly fee for a tv receiver from Spectrum, I bought a Roku Ultra and downloaded the Spectrum app. It's a double win since it's an older Samsung tv with a horrible app interface that doesn't even work and my kids can watch tv freeing up the primary tv.

if you have a roku, better download youtube right now! to anyone who has this shipped to them, you cant download youtube after the 9th of december for roku devices

Wrong. They reached a multi year agreement already. The apps are not going anywhere and there's no rush.

Roku features are so advanced compared to other players. Few examples are mobile based remote (full remote), use mobile and head phone to listen to audio from tv - helpful during late night when family is sleeping.
These are cool premium features which may never be in Another platform

interesting I found out that a Roku, streaming at 4k, uses about 5x less energy than most cable boxes do at standby

The interface isn't crap and since it isn't produced by a streaming company apps are on there impartially.

According to WSJ, Roku has their own channel with advertising, and is developing plans for 50 original series.

I do prefer the interface of my latest office TV with Roku over any manufacturer interface I have used

The drawback is streaming delay about 40~50 seconds.
By the way, Spectrum has streaming only package that is cheaper with fewer channels.

According to my experience years ago, cable box doesn't really "standby". It just pretends it's on "standby. Therefore the energy used is the same whatever mode it is.
Always on is fine for low power devices like Roku. It's not a good thing for cable boxes that consume 30w or more.

Many of Roku owners are cord cutters because they are tired of higher fees of cable companies. Ironically Roku has become cable companies like. It demands to share revenues from content providers like HBO. If they don't agree to pay, their channels won't be available on Roku. YouTube TV is not the first one and won't be the last one. Roku become greedier every year. The best part of original Roku, neutral platform is gone.

I'm assuming it will be like that on other streaming brands' players too,t hough.

Streaming, in general, has gotten more and more like cable and satellite. In the beginning a lot of the streaming tv packages were $20 or so a month and now here's youtube tv at $65... and directv's streaming service is hilariously high priced.

I finally canceled directv (well it's on hold, but will cancel close to when it is due to resume... I am just keeping it to watch my recordings for free, due to the trick that keeps it from stopping viewing.) and now I am getting by cheaply and not missing it.

THIS month I am doing a youtube tv trial, though, where I can watch my team's sports. But then I am doing a free month fubo trial and then a $10 first month of sling, etc... so getting my sports cheaply, then during the summer I don't need sports channels... just buy someone's mlb.tv code from here.

So most of the time I just watch hulu and have peacock for free.

According to Wikipedia, this doesn't support AC wifi.? The Streaming Stick+ (3810) does, and I think it's been $20 a few times. I think that's what I paid in Dec 2020. All other specs seem to be identical.

that's why I got rid of mine for the Streaming Stick 3820R (2021) for $30. It's got AC & MIMO my wifi speeds are much faster.
