This is Gen 3. It's like W80 lite version. It comes without ALO cable and extra faceplates. The MSRP of this was $999.99 on Adorama website yesterday. Looks like they jacked up the price to $1,499 and give you a 60% discount. I see what you did there 😂
Original $1500??? and now after discount $549?!!! What an outrageous price for earphones! Person could buy Airpods, Buds pro live and still save some bucks!

The way their marketing department manipulates this is sketchy as hell. As I said above W80 Gen 2 came with ALO reference 8 cable and additional changeable faceplate, the ALO8 alone retails for $200-250. So in the previous deal Gen 2 was $599, that was decent value because of the cable.
I am in the process of returning this exact Gen 3 to Adorama as now. I ordered Gen 2 in the previous slickdeal but they shipped me this stripped down Gen 3 with fewer accessories instead. As of yesterdays the MSRP of Gen 2 was $1,499 they completely took that off the website now. The MSRP of Gen 3 was $999 and they bumped it up to $1,499 before giving you this "sale". 😂
I also took issues with company that takes their exactly the same product, changed the logo, removed a few accessories, repackaged it and call it Version 3.
Neither Gen 2 or Gen 3 was ever worth $1,500 but now with a stripped down version W80 is not even worth $500-$600. I suspect these will be sub $400s next year.

one thing that explains this that westone used to be a part of westone labs, who is well known for high end hearing protection, custom molds, etc...
this division was sold to lucid audio earlier in the year or late last year, so I imagine gen 2 was made by westone labs, which gen 3 is by this venture...
earphone is same, but missing the extra's,, obviously. as to why you received gen 3 vs gen 2 in previous sale, my guess is that they are out of gen 2 and won't get anymore...

Thanks. That explains. Don't get me wrong it's still a decent IEM. The value is just not there with gen 3. The MSRP price is meaningless since they are always on sale around this deep discount 50-60% a couple of times a year on Adorama as you can see if you do a search on SD. I wonder if Adorama has some deals with them. Seems to me like they want to make more profit by reducing the extra at this regular "sale" price. The W60 is still MSRP at $999. So they keep W80 gen 3 price at $1,499 with a fewer accessories. Pass for me. I'd consider this if it goes to sub $400.
The W80 V2s are great of you like a wide soundstage, bright sound, and clearly placed instruments. I don't think the included cable are a big deal assuming these sound as good as the V2s. Even the ALO included with the ver2 is not as good as a good balanced 2.5. My favorite cable with these is the meze balanced 2.5 cable at Amazon. A good second place is the 3.5mm short from Fiio. The meze cable makes a larger difference than the step up from the W60 to the W80. The W80 combined with the meze cable is excellent. BTW, I use the 3.5mm Fiio with the W60 for working out. It is also an excellent combo. The short length of that cable equals better quality in my opinion. So my recommendation is to get these and use the meze cable if your budget allows. Otherwise, you will likely find the W60 with the short Fiio cable to be a great combo if you like the Westone sound.
