Epic Games & Rockstar Games Launcher have Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC Digital Download) on sale for $9.79 when you follow the steps below.

Thanks to community member LocDenz for sharing this deal.

Instructions (If yo already own Red Dead Online, skip straight to steps 3 through 5 under the 'Next Steps' section):
  • First Steps:
    1. Login or register at EPIC Games Store and opt-in to receive email offers here
    2. A $10 Off $14.99 or More Holiday Coupon will be added to your account inventory (may take up to 24 hours)
    3. Buy Red Dead Online for $14.99 - $10 Coupon (automatically applied at checkout) = $4.99
      • Note: The $10 coupon is not limited to a single game purchase and can be used in one shot to buy multiple games at once by adding all desired $14.99+ titles to cart, then checking out in a single transaction.
  • Next Steps:
    1. Install and run Red Dead Online using Epic Games launcher (free download).
    2. The game will open using Rockstar Games Launcher (free download).
    3. On the in-game title screen, click 'Story' in the top-right corner.
    4. Click 'Buy Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode' at the bottom on the next screen.
    5. Purchase Story Mode via the in-game store for $4.80
    6. You will now own Online Mode through EPIC Games Store (launches using both EPIC Games Launcher and Rockstar Games Launcher) and Story Mode via Rockstar Games Launcher for $9.79 total.
    7. You will need to keep both versions installed (Online Mode installed/run via EPIC and Story Mode installed/run via Rockstar) if you want to have both modes without experiencing game crashes / errors. Otherwise, you may install/run either mode individually from within their respective launchers.
      • Total installation size of both modes combined will require ~240GB of free space (also note if your internet service provider has data caps on usage).

Helpful Installation Tips (see original installation steps as posted by communality member LocDenz here):
  1. Completely exit game (if running) and both launchers.
  2. Go to the game installation folder for Red Dead Redemption 2 from EPIC (default is typically C:\Program Files\Epic Games\, but may vary depending on your personal setup)
  3. Temporarily move the folder named RedDeadRedemption2 to a different location on your PC or a connected external drive (so you can install the Rockstar Games Launcher portion during the next step).
    • Optional: Go to Epic Games Launcher and Uninstall Red Dead Online. This step is just to unregister it from EPIC Launcher (your downloaded files will still be available).
  4. Open Rockstar Games Launcher and you will now be able to download the Story Mode portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 from within the Rockstar Launcher application.
    • If you uninstalled Online Mode from EPIC Games Launcher using the optional section under step 2 above, go back to EPIC Games Launcher and click Install on Red Dead Redemption 2 in your games Library. Let it download for roughly one or so minutes, then pause the download.
    • Go back and move the Red Dead Redemption 2 folder you moved earlier back to its original installation location where you moved it from (overwrite if prompted).
    • Go back into EPIC Games Launcher and resume the paused download for Red Dead Redemption 2 (it will verify the existing contents only, rather than needing to re-download it all over again).
Good Deal?

This is how I got RDR2 for $10 on PC.

1. Head to EpicGames Store and purchase the Online version for $14.99, a $10 coupon will automatically apply, total will be $4.99 + tax.
https://www.epicgames.com/store/e...ead-online
2. Install the game using Epic Games launcher and run it.
3. After the game is running, switch to Story mode and purchase via the in-game store for $4.80 + tax.
4. Exit the game, exit Rockstar launcher.
5a. Move the installed folder from Epic to different location so you can install Rockstar version on next step.
5b. (Optional) Go to Epic launcher and Uninstall RDR2. This step is just unregistered the game with Epic Store, your downloaded files are still available.
6. Open Rockstar launcher and you will be able to download full version of RDR2.
6b. If you uninstall from Epic Store using step 5b, re-install the game, wait for about 1 min for Epic starts to create some content, pause the download, close Epic launcher.
6c. Move back the original installation from step 5a to the location where you have Epic version installation pause in step 6b. Start Epic launcher and Resume download, it will verify the content only, no re-download.

You will download total 240 GB over internet, watch out if your ISP has data cap Peace

To launch Story mode, start the game in Rockstar launcher. To launch Online mode, start the game in Epic Games launcher.

Have fun!!

Note that you are NOT getting the Ultimate version for $4.80 despite what the store says, if you want Ultimate you need to pay for the $24 version (which is still a historic low).

UPDATE: You can actually accomplish full story mode wih only a single download (120GB total), and then move/copy files rather than re-download. The files are shared across ONLINE and story mode, so they simply need to be copied or moved using the instructions below. Credit to IanTH for original idea.

Caveat:
To play story mode only, *move* files from EPIC to ROCKSTAR
To play online and story mode, *copy* files from EPIC to ROCKSTAR

How to install full story mode with only 120GB
1) Use step 1-6 in post #2 to purchase online and story modes
2) Close Epic and Rockstar launchers
3) Copy (or move) the folder "C:\Program Files\Epic Games\RedDeadRedemption2" to "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\RedDeadRedemption2"
4) Rename the folder "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\RedDeadRedemption2" to "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2"
5) Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\RedDeadRedemption2\.egstore
6) Start Rockstar Launcher
7) Select installation location as ""C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games"
8) Game files will be verified in 2-3 min, and game will be read to play
9) Enjoy Story mode, TOTAL SIZE:~120GB

Example of double DRM: buying an Ubisoft game on Steam, you'll need to have both Steam and Ubisoft Connect running to play your game.

Another example: buying RDR2 on Steam or Epic, you'll have to have Steam or Epic open AND Rockstar Launcher to play your game.

It's farking annoying.
For those who want to delete the Epic installation, but still be able to access Online mode.

- Go to the location where you installed RDR2 from Rockstar launcher.
- Right click on RDR2.exe and select Send to Desktop. It will create a shortcut on Desktop. Do this twice, we need 2 shortcuts.
- Re-name the first shortcut to "RDR2 - Story Mode" or whatever you like. Running from this shortcut will allow you to play Story Mode.
- Re-name the 2nd shortcut to "RDR2 - Online Mode" or what you like. Right-click on it and select Properties. In the Target field, go to the end of the line, hit Spacebar and then type -useEpic. Click Apply and then OK to close down the Properties. Check attached file if you are not sure. Running from this shortcut will allow you to play Online mode.

Crap... won't be able to get this working - game won't launch on my wife's ancient PC Laptop (graphics drivers not sufficient) and I'm not going to be able to bootcamp off my crappy old Macbook Air. The gaming laptop is back at home and we are out of town. I should have just lugged it with Frown

I'm seriously thinking about just buying the it for $20 on Epic at this point. But I just bought Horizon Zero Dawn and Hitman 3, so maybe I should just take it easy lol...
Do you have a friend you'd trust with your passwords to do this for you?

Runs fine on my system, definitely been patched since launch.

Using GOG and LocDenz instructions on making a shortcut link, found on page 7, I was able to get online and story mode working from one full Rockstar launcher install and the .egstore folder only in the Epic launcher install.

do web search for epic digital coupon and it'll send you to a link to get it added to your account.

There's a workaround posted but you can also just delete the online install and just play the story mode.

Not really. I don't even game that much but have kept hearing so much about RDR2 that I figured "might as well try it" - I'll prob just wait till I get back next week. If I'm unable to do it, I'll just request a refund for RDO...

Should be automatic at checkout, mine was. If you haven't claimed any of the free games yet that might trigger the coupon, so try that. Don't listen to people that say you need to sign up for the newsletter, that's false.

NOTE: If you already have online (in my case through epic) and just want the story campaign - you can just go to the second set of steps and simply buy story mode in game for $4.80

This wasn't immediately apparent to me in reading the initial post because I know the post is focused on the mechanics of making this work across epic and rockstar for new purchasers.

Whats the "second set of steps?"

Theres no way to do this without launching the actual game and going to the story mode right? I was hoping i could do it just through the launchers (there's a "story"but submenu in the rockstar launcher but not with the $4.80 price) but it doesnt look like its possible.

Lets say I want to buy the Ultimate Edition content. Is there a way for me to purchase it after I've already bought the standard story?

No, there's no way to buy it for that price outside of the method outline in the OP, I think what they mean is skip the steps to buy RDRO on Epic if you already own it, so you'd be starting around step 3 I believe.

If you haven't played the standard edition story mode for more than 2 hours you can request a refund and buy the Ultimate Edition with the same steps as outlined in the OP with the exception that you choose Ultimate for $24.

Nice. Do I need to convert after exporting?
I tried to import my stadia save last night, but couldn't get it to work. PC version wouldn't recognize the file even though the name for the save file is exactly the same as the one it's replacing. So unfortunately looks like they're incompatible. I just downloaded PC saves from elsewhere that matched my progress the closest. Those worked without any issues.

I know it's not apparent that this is simply a sale by Rockstar for 'upgrade' from Red Dead Online. I bought my RDO version from Rockstar and could just log into the store and purchase the upgrade on the same account without logging into the game. I made a post about the $5 sale for upgrade from RDO to Red Dead Redemption 2 but the mods chose to merge it in this thread.

(not really bitter even though I mentioned it a couple times, I'm just frustrated that something that is a great deal will have people who could benefit directly from the sale without doing all this hoops are now missing out; because at first glance, like you, it seems this is some hack you have to do from the start.)
