Hi guys those are really worried about them screen and if it replaced or aftermarket- here is the confirmation I got from customer support - "All our devices reconditioned are brand new devices that were returned by the customer for any reason" and would have original battery and screen

On the other question being prominent in this thread - the unlock policy and if it 12 months or 60 days
Here is the update and I checked with couple of customer care representative just to be sure and this is what I was told
" the device activation date when you receive it and the service activated is considered the date of activation" and needs to remain as an active service for 60 days to be unlocked

Pls. Note the service has to active for 60 days but I have heard conflicting views from a telephone rep and chat rep they all did confirm it's 60 days and not 12 months but one said 60 days of active service and other said automatically 60 days. Those who might still be thinking you can reach totalwireless on a chat and confirm with them for your reference as well

XR is an excellent phone for this price. But you should really buy a $1500 13 promax so you can impress yourself and your friends.

Wow, nice ! I checked this morning and it was still locked. I activated on the 24th as well and I just check now after reading your message and saw the carrier lock was removed. Popped in a Verizon SIM and it's working !

I did not pay for a second month.
Awesome… looks like you're the third person to get auto-unlock without buying a second month of service. Seems like it's safe to say phones will auto-unlock without buying a second month now, but slightly delayed on day 61 instead of day 60.

If anyone else gets to day 60 with inactive service and feels like experimenting, try connecting to iTunes and / or doing a factory reset. I'd be curious if the unlock info is already out on the Apple server, but your phone is just somewhat slow to make that update unless prompted to do so immediately by contacting the server. (I'd try this in the latter half of day 60 since we're not sure when those unlock lists would go out.) If you do this, make sure to check unlock status immediately before and after in order to see if it actually makes the difference.

I will be overseas when my XR will "unlock" next month. Will it still unlock even if I am not in the home area of Total Wireless?

You could check on sickw.com. Easiest method.

I don't see why not. Apple's activation servers doesn't care where you are. That's who ultimately does the unlocking.

Yeah, that may be a good first step to see if it's unlocked according to Apple. But the question I'm more interested in is whether forcing your phone to connect to the activation server via reset or iTunes will expedite that update on your phone quicker than just letting it filter out on its own. Updates made on the server aren't necessarily pushed out to their respective devices immediately.

My phone is still locked, it's day 61. I just tried putting in a different SIM to see if that would push the new status when it would try to activate, but got the error message for SIM not compatible.

I'll try to connect it to a computer later, otherwise may have to give them a call. I did port my number out to Visible after the first month, so maybe that's a difference.

Yeah, the porting might have affected it. I'd also try to make sure to have the original TW SIM for that phone in it when testing further to see if it unlocks. Not sure if that could have some effect. Obviously, you won't have service with the SIM, but the related Info could factor in. (Probably not, but it's not going to hurt anything to have it in.)

Porting could affect it. But you should still pursue unlock, since there was no fraud. Might take escalation to the FCC, but it's not too difficult.

How do you escalate to the FCC?

I just tried calling, first CSR says device is not eligible because it is not yet active for 12 months, they wanted $275 to unlock today. Second CSR also mentioned the $275 fee, but said 60 days of active service instead of 12 months. Both times required me to provide a verification code for my account. I wonder if there's a magic sequence for some CSRs that doesn't require verification, as the previous poster mentioned.

I activated my first refurbished XR on 12/24. I did not pay for the second month. Today I received a message saying my phone is now unlocked.

So you received the text message about being unlocked despite not having active cell service?

When you get a minute, try texting the word "unlock" to 611611 and see what the reply is. Someone else just reported they can text that service number even without active service. (Not sure if it will still work due to the porting thing, but am curious.)

Note: The TW SIM will need to be in it.

Yes it was from a service number. Something like 611611 but I haven't had service since the first month expired

Weird … I've seen several other posts from people who saw their phones unlock without active service, but none of them got the text notifying them. Maybe they didn't have the SIM in their phones or something.
