I think these updates screw things up with the update instead of a fresh install. I installed 11.1.2.2 on a 6t and it's been very good.
I worded it wrongly. It's a fresh install. I was on a beta release before and decided to go back to stable release, so had to do a clean install. I think it's mainly the 7t and 8 that have issues. Haven't heard about that many problems with the 8t.

If you look at the most recent AT&T whitelist (Dec 15) of devices that will still be allowed on their network after Feb 2022, the T-Mobile version of the 8T is not on that list. The model # of the phone that I received is KB2007 and the only 8T models they will allow are KB2000, KB2001, & KB2005.
Those are the non 5 G models that are whitelisted. Very weird.

I purchased the 8T+ (T-Mobile) on Dec 1, received it on Dec 15, and was not able to unlock it using the steps that have been given for unlocking the 8. I contacted T-Mobile and they said they didn't have the phone in their system and I would have to contact OnePlus. I contacted OnePlus customer support and they were beyond useless. They tried to tell me the phone had to be active for 40 days before it could be unlocked. I asked them to show me where that was documented and they continually ignored me. I believe that is the policy for boot-loader unlock but that is now what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to RMA the phone since I'm still in the 15 day window and after 2 days I'm still waiting on the information I need to send the phone back. I'm done with OnePlus after this horrible experience with their customer support.
OnePlus customer support is atrocious. I wasted so many hours talking with them, then contacting them again when they didn't do what they said they were gonna do. Had to send my phone in twice for the same issue, losing a $20 Dbrand skin I'd installed after receiving the phone again the first time (silly me, thinking they'd actually fixed it), and to this day the phone still isn't fixed. They just gave me the runaround for months waiting for my warranty to expire and left me with a lemon that they refused to replace. Never making that mistake again.

The whole ordeal actually convinced me that the next phone I get is gonna be an iPhone, because with Apple at least I know the customer support experience will be relatively painless.

I absolutely love this phone. Never had an issue in a year, charges to full in 30 minutes and the low light camera is incredible.

You can try GCAM to see if it makes your camera any better.

Fantastic device. I loved everything about it…except the charging. It would trickle charge on EVERYTHING other than the OP charger or another 65w charger I have around. Sucked when I was on a road trip and didn't have a fast charger with me. Sucked even more when the hotel USB hook ups weren't enough to get it half full over night.

They don't seem to mention that anywhere. The YouTubers seem to avoid giving people real and useful information like that as well.

Just be aware that if you're buying this phone to use as a daily driver, OxygenOS 11 has been majorly buggy + slow. And OxygenOS 12 seems to be even worse, as they're merging ColorOS into OxygenOS but without fixing many of the issues on either skin + locking the software down even harder (like breaking the GCam mods that improve the camera). I'd recommend to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM ASAP.
I replaced my note 20 ultra with a OnePlus 8T and I like everything about it better except obviously the camera, but I use my LEICA SL when I want to take good photos. I forgot how much I prefer OnePlus phones and a flat display. So tired of curved displays

I recommending replacing the factory OxygenOS 11 with LineageOS right after you unboxed it if you are privacy conscious and really want to buy a phone from a company who's headquarters is in China which they are required to do (by a new law they've passed and practically at gunpoint) whatever the Chinese Communist Party mafia tells them to (including leveraging your phone as a platform to spy on dissidents) and have little to lose in the US. I'm not sure about the people here, but I certainly don't want to live at the mercy of the CCP's mafia.

LineageOS is available for 8T:
