These are made in China I believe unlike the US made lodge cast iron. Enamel coating may be of varying quality and prone to chipping. That's why I skipped getting cheaper enameled pots from lodge and Martha Stewart and went with Staub.

Borough Furnace is the only company that makes enameled cast iron in the US.

I'm pretty sure this has been the everyday price in store for years now. the packaging on these are different, I have a feeling that these are made for walmart

Staub is made in France. The other poster seemed more concerned with the OP being made in China. Most of what are considered to be high end brands are made in France. Staub, Le Creuset, etc.
For some it might be about buying domestic, and that's a valid viewpoint. There's also the aspect of buying things made in a country known to have a particular passion or expertise vs the lowest bidder with a long history of taking shortcuts (environmental, labor, etc).

Can this be used on my smoker? Reading things like it should not be used on a grill is concerning. Maximum temperature would probably be 300 degrees though.

Cancelled my orders on this. Seems like I really should just save up for a le creuset and save myself some disappointment. Thanks for the good info.
Staub is like 5x the price. I've used my Lodge that I got 5 or so years ago and it's held up great. And I've used and abused it, preheated it empty in my oven up to 550deg, etc. Only issue is some staining in the bottom, but that's to be expected.

I wouldn't shy away from lodge, maybe just the Walmart lodge. tj Maxx/Marshalls/home goods have pieces all the time. I've got a 7qt that gets used a few times a week and it's great. the bottom is stained, but it cooks just fine and is purely cosmetic. I've also got a staub that is really nice and hands down a nicer piece, but imo not worth the price difference. I got my lodge for $40 on clearance at Target, the staub was $120 on clearance at home goods, fwiw.

Save your money - there's many plenty good for far cheaper. I went with the Tratamonia from Costco... I can buy 10 sets for one Le Crueset. Not remotely worth the price difference. That being said, I think we all have things we splurge on... I certainly do. Sounds from your comments that this probably wouldn't be one you'd need to splurge to that degree however...

These are actually very nice looking. I may spring for one of these in 6 months or so - after I've made the move I'm planning. No use moving a 10 pound pot! The little tripod legs on the bottom may be a bit of a pain, but maybe an angle grinder or something along those lines could take them off. Or find a similar thing without the little legs. Edit to add: Like this 5 qt one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lodge-...L3/5969631

What do people think of the Ozark brand, compared to Lodge for the various cast iron pans?
I got a 3 piece set of Ozark Trail raw cast iron frying pans about 4-5 years ago, on an end of summer season clearance for under $10. Seasoned them repeatedly before using them. I like them a lot. They are a bit lighter than my Lodge and Le Creuset enameled ones. Not perfect, but they cook great, clean easily, and do the job. They get poo-pooed on threads like this all the time.

My enameled cast iron dutch oven is 5 qt. from Wolfgang Puck, $22 at TJ Maxx on clearance, also around 5+ years ago. Used it for chili tonight. Very minor wear. As the inside was originally "ivory", over the years, it's darkened. No damage, just patina. Love it too, though it's a heavy beast. Chinese, like the Ozark Trails.

Though I only have one piece of Lodge, they're fine. Almost all enameled cast iron that isn't top ($$$$$) brand, will chip a little after 10+ years. I have a 30 year old outer enameled, inner pre-seasoned, Chinese 10" fry pan, that's chipped on the bottom. It's dedicated to fish. 1x-2x uses each week. What's a chip or two? Still works fine. $12 at TJM back when.

Then there's my beautiful Le Creuset enameled saute pan. Looks great hanging on the pot rack. I use it for crepes. But, it's always had a lightly imperfect surface, so it doesn't get used much anymore. I don't think they're worth the $$$, except as a visible lifestyle piece.

This is a good, discount retail, price for a decent oven. But, Tramontina, just as good, can be had below $50, below $40. But this is decent if you're ready for the plunge. If you're patient, and keep your eyes open, you can do well. Don't believe the snobs and fear mongers. Start in your budget, see what you like and go from there. My first cast iron was a round tortilla/fajita pan from the Matamoros mercado for $5, seems like a century ago. Still comes out every now and then.

I bought the same pot 3 months ago and I have no problem with it. I cook a lot and the quality is great.

Last time I experienced a Dutch oven was when I was in bed with my wife and I lifted up the blanket. Not sure why anyone would want that…it wasn't pleasant.

I have had one of these for 2 years and I use it exclusively on my Traeger for smoked queso. It works like a charm and the handles make it perfect for that purpose.

Thanks. I wonder what all this talk of not using them on the grill is? I'm assuming that means at higher temperatures.

It's enameled so the seasoning part doesn't apply to this.

You can wash it like stainless steel. It's best to not use metal utensils on it to protect the enamel.

What was not pleasant? Sleeping on the couch for the rest of the night?
