It very well could be… I got one a few years ago from Amazon for my BIL for like $110 and thought it was a killer deal.

I've owned the Farpoint 55 since 2017 and have taken it on about a dozen 1-2 week long international trips. It's a phenomenal bag. Some interesting things some might find helpful:

1) Osprey has a lifetime warranty (check their website). If anything on it breaks EVER, send it to them and they will repair for free

2) This bag is great for flights with baggage size restrictions (one personal item + one carry on) because you can separate the 15L backpack from the main 40L pack. So the backpack becomes your personal item and you can zip the straps into the main pack and carry it like a rectangular suitcase. It fits in every overhead bin I've ever tried it on.

Every try and wheel a suitcase down a cobblestone road in Vienna? Ever tried to traverse through a crowded Rome subway station with a wheeled bag?

Forget it.

Everyone should strive to travel with a backpack. Makes life so much easier.

Went all over Europe with an Osprey bag (46L Porter) smaller than this one. They're excellent.

They key is to not overpack. Take what you can carry on your back. Good packs don't put strain on your shoulders or back.

I have taken my Fairview 40 out and about in the rain in the UK and Indonesia and it hasn't soaked through. So I would say from my experience, yes. Resistant, not waterproof. It's like a thick nylon outer. Hope that helps.

I own a Fairpoint bag and it's probably the best for traveling one bag for me. Tons of space and compartments for everything. Super happy with my bag. REI also has a cheaper bag similar to this one. I believe is called ruck or something like that. Has good reviews as well but that Osprey warranty is for life vs one year for the rei bag.

Sweet deal, anything over a 40 and you are at risk of checking it in flights. I think I'll wait for the 40 liter

Wife and I spent almost a month flying from US to several countries throughout Europe and never had an issue with the 55. Fits nicely in the overhead bins. Water resistant and so convenient to carry! Holds alot of items!

Excellent…I don't speak for everyone, but when I size my carryon, I aim for underseat (so I can access everything). I know most people use their "personal item" for that stuff but I love having just one bag if I can.

I have always hated overhead storage with a passion, especially the people too weak to lift their 100# hard sized bag up there without hurting everyone around them Smilie

(Love Southwest because more people actually check the stuff they're supposed to check)

You can detach the 15L daypack and carry it on separately.

These bags are amazing for traveling. You can clip the daypack on the front of the backpack to even out the weight. I regularly checked the larger bag and carried on the daypack. Only complaint is the zipper on the daypack got a little sticky over time. Not a huge deal.

Unless you're hiking through unpaved roads, wouldn't it be much more comfortable to have a wheeled carry on for your heavy items and a backpack or bag you can attach to your wheeled carry on and not put any strain on your back or legs?

This isn't a backpack for hiking, it's for travel. As singer another user said, traveling with a backpack makes for a much better time. Can confirm, this pack is perfect for backpacking and meets international carry on size once the 15l backpack is detached from the main.
